As this compilation of threads illustrates,
IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER WHAT OIL YOU USE.
It's the twenty-first century. Metallurgy and lubrication science have both taken such astounding leaps over the last fifty years that virtually all the once-true tales of oils and preferences are obsolete.
If you're seriously interested in what goes into, why, how and how much oil, check http://bobistheoilguy.com/

what oil should i use for a 90talon tsi awd during the winter?

What is the BEST weight I should use for my 91 Talon TSI TURBO?

Not the Brand Just the weight please... Ive heard I should use 15w50
and ive also heard thats too thick.

please answer

I used 10W30 Mobil 1 Full Synthetic for normal driving, but if I was going to the track I'd change to 0W30, then change back to 10W30 when I got back home. But Mobil 1 Full Synth is the only oil worth a damn.

My car has over 100k miles so i didn't wanna use a Full Synthetic. So i bought a synthetic blend of 20W-50. It does wonders for your oil pressure. It did mine.

Laughing at Mobil One or the 0W30? The 0W30 for the track was actually recommended by a Corvette Mechanic. As was the Mobil One

Very untrue. Amsoil and Royal Purple are at least as good, and probably better. Mobil1 doesn't even use a true synthetic base any more, I don't think.

Well not only that but who in the hell wants to change theur oil with a fully synthetic every single time they go to the track:confused: Granted I use Mobil1, but I also agree that its not nearly the best out there. Corvettes use Mobil1 from the factory, tis prolly why he recommended it. But just cause I once knew a Hyundai mechanic that said th Tiburon 6 cylinders are better than the 4G63's... doest mean Im going to beleive him;)

Throwing a full synthetic oil into our 1g's is a bad idea in my opinion. Its hard enough to plug all the leaks our mitsu's have, never mind putting a synthetic in that will seep out every spot it possibly can. Thoughts?

No, that's not true either. The thing is, is that synthetic has a tendency to kind of dissolve some of the organic oil's deposits that have built up over time around seals and gaskets. It doesn't create any new leaks or eat away at gaskets, but only reveals the minor cracks and leaks that were there before, but were "gummed up" by sludge buildup from organic oil.

It's only the OEM Oil for Corvettes, Vipers, AMG, Aston Martin, the Evolution, etc... I guess my mechanic was just talking out of his ass then. I mean, just because someone has worked on Hi-Po Corvettes (Lingenfelters etc) their whole life and OWNS a TT Lingenfelter and a C5R doesn't mean they actually "know" anything...

Hey, it's your mechanic-- you listen to whatever comes out of his ass if you want to. :) I'd rather do my own research, even if I make some wrong decisions on rare occasions. I'm pretty sure that this isn't one of them, however.
