Resolved What is the correct size for the tranny drain plug? It's not 24mm

I read the vfaq and other sources and everyone says it's 24mm so I went out and bought a 24mm socket to change all my gear oils. Well the 24mm socket works fine for the transfer case and the rear diff but it seems too big for the tranny drain plug. Has anyone else come across this? I'm trying to find out what sze I need to buy.

Thanks for the helps.

i can go look on mine but it may or may not be the same because mines spyder n/t

well if its not factory use a digital caliper and put it on metric or inches and wrap it on the nut that will tell ya the size

Thanks for all the replies. I don't know why the bolt wouldn't be stock but I will try the 15/16 socket and see if that works.

Thanks again.

It really does have a 24mm head but is difficult to grab due to the very slim thickness of the head. Sockets/wrenches have a space (from the edge) before the hex part starts so there's not much contact on a slim head thickness bolt. Use only a 6 point socket/wrench (not a 12pt) or a 15/16" socket/wrench. I got so frustrated rounding the edges of mine (even with a 6pt) and finally could only get it with hammering and a vice grip pliers (it is always very tight). This of course destroyed it (it's also very soft) and I had to buy another one. Putting a normal washer (instead of the thin copper one) on helps.
