ok i know there's a billion posts on this, im just skitzhophrenic, and need to make sure one last time before i do the fluids on my car, so

tranny= gm syncromesh/penzoil syncromesh (gl4)

diff= gl5 castrol synthetic 75w90 gear oil ( for lsd's)

xfercase =???? this is where im stumped, should i run the castrol gear oil in here too? or should i use the syncromesh?

i looked everywhere for redline and finally my local parts store told me they could order it in for 28$$ a liter, which i thought was redicoulous, so thats why im going with the syncromesh/castrol combo, if anyone could tell me if its cool to run the castrol 75w90 in my transfer case that would be awesome too.

:talon: :laser: :dsm:

I was told the best stuff was BG syncoshift II for the tranny and BG Ultra Guard 75w-90 for everything else.

What is the best gear lube to use in the transfer case and rear end? I will be using Syncromesh in the trans already.

"best" is a matter of opinion -
Ive got redline in my entire drivetrain-
rearend=shockproof
Xfer = mt90
trans = mtl90+mt90 mix

Be honest, I have tried a few different lubes in alot of cars, domestic and imports, the best ones overall, Royal Purple, Lucas, and Valvoline. I use Lucas in my Diff and my tranny/center diff, and oil and basically all of my lubes. I used royal purple for a while, but they are way too expensive, Lucas you can find at Autozone, Advanced Auto, Napa, anywhere, so just look... :talon:

I was just wondering what fluids you guys use in your transmissions? I know the regular recommendation is Syncromesh but I don't like the way it comes out and it didn't give me any shifting improvement. I've also heard its not very good for protecting the transmission. I've also tried the regular BG Syncroshift which was pretty notchy for me also. The best stuff I've used is whatever was in there when I bought the car...LOL.

So I'm just asking for a simple listing of what you use, or have used, and what you thought of it. I'm thinking of trying some Redline products.

For me

98,000 miles on tranny
BG Syncroshift I - notchy
Penzoil Syncromesh - shifts good but seems thin

In my friends car, we first tried the pennzoil synchromesh and it didn't work ALL that great, it still grinded going into 3rd gear. He drove it around for about 2 weeks and no improvement at all.

I convinced him to try the Redline fluid and it fixed all his tranny issues. It now shifts SMOOTH, and doesn't grind at all.

Its been working great for about a year now.

His 3rd gear had bearly started to grind sometimes, so your results may vary.

Droopy, go back to Sac-DSM Forums =P. J/k

Which Redline fluid are you using? I just put in 3 (approx) qts of Redline MT90. It shifts ok but its hit and miss. Shifts ok sometimes then it sucks so I'm going to start looking at other stuff in the drivetrain like clutch adjustment maybe new master/slave cylinders.

Sac-DSM is down right now. Whats your s/n there?

We used Redline MT90 in his car. We used 5 bottles of the stuff in his 3kgt. What exactly is it doing? Grinding, Not going in? popping out? My friend's 3rd gear grinded going in to 3rd, but it went in everytime. After the Redline fluid, it doesn't grind anymore, just goes in smoothly. Your synchros might be about to die maybe. How many miles are on it?

How many quarts does your tranny hold? Does it do this in every gear?
Have you checked your motor mounts and tranny mount? If your engine and tranny are moving a lil too much, shifting gears wont be that great.

Are you leaking any clutch fluid? Is your clutch dissengaging off the floor?

Where did you get your Redline fluid? The place in Lodi that I bought it at closed down.

1 Quart of heavy weight Shock Proof then fill the rest of the way with Syncromesh.
Great shifting with some good protection.

Used to run Pennzoil Synchromesh and honestly I didn't like it. I started grinding on a newly rebuilt transmission. Running BG II now.

i was wondering what everyone reccomends for using in the trans, rear, and transfer case??? 2nd gear is like gone on my car and i just wanna be able to get into 2nd till i get my trans rebuilt .... also how many quarts for each???? and is lucas i good thing to add in any of them???

thanks for the help

peace

I use 1/2 neo rhd, 1/2 shockproof in my shep tranny, heavyweight shockproof in the transfer case and rear diff.

When I had a stock tranny, I would use Penzoil synchromesh and it helped out immensely in my 134,XXX mile tranny. Shifts were smoother and though it was on it's way to tranny heaven the synchromesh helped out 'til it blew.

If you're set on using that tranny 'til she goes I'd flush it out a few times with cheap stuff to clear whatever debris is floating in there and then add some synchromesh.
