Sorry for butting into your thread, but has any of you guys heard (or has somethign against) silver plugs from nology ?

It all cool man.
I would stick with NGK. Flat-out the best plug.

I put some NGK Iridiums (stock heat range-- BPR6EIX) in my car last year shortly after I got it. They performed flawlessly. A couple weeks ago, I put in a set of BPR7ES plugs. They're OK, but they don't idle as well as the Iridiums. Then again, could that have to do with the fact that they're a heat range colder? I pulled them the other day to see how they looked, and they appeared to be OK....

I will never use platinum plugs again! One of the platinum plugs on my car ended up getting a very small hairline crack on the insulator causing my car to studder while boosting. I ran Bosch platinums for awhile before I knew anything about running the NGK BPR7ES plugs. Just Go with the NGK BPR7ES plugs gapped at .028. They are the best plugs for our cars that are running high boost levels.

Agreed.

the problem with plat plugs isnt cracks or bad idle...

Platinum burning up and flaking all over your cylender, chewing up your rings and valve seats sounds a bit more like the reason i dont use em :) stay with coppers or whatever other super high temps you use.

and I have a question.
I ordered some NGK's from the lovely Advanced Auto Parts. I asked for copper but they got me the VX (platinum) the code on the plug is BP7ESVX I went a step colder because I was going to step up the boost to about 17-18 psi for daily since I installed my FMIC and ND 660's.
I hear that platinum plugs make the 4g63 run like ass, but do you guys thing that these would work ok re-gapped to .026 or so? or should I take them back and get copper?
Thanks fellas.
All you need is the NGK BPR7ES plugs. I run 20psi on my daily driver and 23psi on race gas with these plugs.

Yea I got them and gapped them. They were really close to .028 right out of the box.. a little loose on a .027.

I tell you switching to these plugs even at low boost the car runs a bunch better. I could have sworn that I had replaced them but I guess that was in my Honda.. there was Champion plugs in it! hahahaha WTF!! its a freakin wonder the car ran as good as it did! It is like a new animal with the NGK's.. LOL they were a bit on the whitish side so I added a little more fuel.. happy happy.
Now for more boost.. 18 should do it.

Bah, I still run the NGKBPR6ES (hell, we stock them where I work)....

I've run as high as 25psi on these plugs without detionation with a 50/50 C16 Mix.

Then again, my car is a freak.

Plan :

1 Put in platinum plugs for 1 month (just to get my gsx running a little bit higher than..shit.

2 Month later , put in NGK plugs

3 Boost gauge

4 Manual boost controller , up the boost 4psi.

Reason : Raced a 92 Talon and lost ..his car was stock .. mine has a full catback exaust. STILL trying to figure what the deal was , im guessing plugs.

Any insight on how much HP i would get out of running a few more PSI out of my stock turbo? Can i cause any damage to the turbo by only boosting it a little bit?

maybe he was just a better driver :thumb:

2gvs1g. Was the talon awd or fwd? Was it from a roll or stop. Auto or standard(for both of ya)?

It's hard to tell with so little information.

Well you're still basically stock. Cat backs don't do much on 2G's except make them louder. What NGK's did you use? If you put in BPR6ES then there's your problem, besides the auto tranny. When I had my 6's in and was running 16 psi they wouldn't spark right in high RPM therefore making my car run like shit. Get some BPR7ES's and at least a testpipe if not a full downpipe/testpipe and race him again. Also a little tip I learned from my Supra buddy, brake tourqe to build boost from the line.

Sure, get platinum if you want nothing but problems. They will do more good than bad. Its not like platinum plugs are a NAWZZ boost or somethin.

platinums suck. Use the regular copper plugs they have less ohms than platinums. Platinums are only better at keeping carbon deposits off, ie they last longer.

BPR7ES NGK's are what you should run. I tried the Bosch Platinum +4's, and honestly, they sucked complete ass.

There are so many variables in what you COULD have done to lose... thing is, you take a stock 1G and a stock 2G and two comperable ddrivers, and the 1G is going to own. Bigger turbo, better manifold... just an all around better built car.

How to launch your car? Exactly like Syndicate said, mash on the brake at the line and give it gas... you will build boost becase your car is under load... when the light turns green, mash the gas, let off the brake and away you go. That is one benifit of an auto tranny, you can build boost at the line easily without tricky footwork or a stutter box.
