I'm lookin to buy a motor to drop in my Gsx and I do not have any money now to do it and won't until spring.. What do you guys think about buying an already built block to throw on mine? I want the car done to go the shootout and if I piece It together myself it will be much more costly and way more time consuming and I won't be able to make it :( if I were to buy a built one I would only buy on either off of the marketplace on here or off someone that has documentation on it. So what do you think go for it or no go?

If I bought a built one ready to go the car could be running a short time after I have the money instead of weeks after saving and building it

:hmm: Purchasing an already built block is risky. Just as you have stated whoever you get if from they need to be reputable. Even then its one of those things where you take a gamble that the block is built right. My suggestion is to get the block from one of the reputable builders here on the site when your money becomes available they can usually ship one in house to you pretty quick:cool:

Never Ever, Ever, Ever buy a "built" block unless you can get a massive amount of pictures, and or examine the block your self. You need to know what to look for. I wouldn't purchase a engine unless I planned on rebuilding it. Ask yourself, Well it looks good on the outside but do I want to risk it? Then you pull it apart and find burnt rods, or spun bearings, or a blown head gasket. Be weary some get lucky but seems most, including myself, get hosed.

If i were to buy an already built block it would either be off someone i know or someone trust worthy on this site and thats it no craigslst crap that would never fly with me if would have to have full documentation with pictures as well i just want to be able to race at the shootout this year that would be amazing haha

JNZ Tuning Short Block-2.0 6 Bolt : JNZ Tuning

I would talk to John or Tyler at Force Engineering. They are just about done building my motor and have been super awesome throughout the whole process! Tons of pics and great communication. Check out their sale in the vendor section!

I trusted a random person to build a block for me and then sell it to me and let me just say it did not end well. Never again would I ever buy a built motor that was built by someone I did not trust. If you going to buy one that's already built (by a shop) I would go with one from DSM graveyard such as the frankenstein block. I would trust them.
