what do i need to do to make 300-325 hp?

Heat wrap reliable keeps temps down, other things you can do to make it reliable, im rebuilding a full engine now but, i already have lots of mods, maintenace, and rely on your ability to wrench yourself when you can, i taught myself everything with a few tools a book and then on its been second nature my dsm that is, and go from there with the upgrades you want in the future. Dsmer since 1994

Yeah I started with helping my dad rebuild his truck paying close attention when I was 9 the help building sandrails the I rebuild my atvs and bikes so I know how to I have the tools. I just love cars I love working on the espicialy 4 hangers with a turbo just the fact people make 1000 HP out of the cylinder space equivilant to 2 liter soda bottle it amazes me.

Nice car and mine also has a split manifold but just stock turbo would heat wrap make it more reliable? Or anything?

Yes I don't have the car in my posession yet the reason I say like I do is just to get people past the fact I am looking to modify a car I don't have but I'm picking it up tomarrow. I decided to go dsm not wrx or ms3 I love any dsm with Passion gotta be one of my favorite cars. People my age say I'm crazy but really they are for wanting an impractical car like a veyron

These cars are my obsession too. I have worked on, and continue to work on many other platforms from boats, to a lightaircraft, powersports toys, and BBCs down to the little 1.5L Honda I am fabbing a compound turbo setup for.

Can you explain what you mean by split manifold on the stock turbo?

The stock turbo is an "open" or single entry/scroll volute.. the only stock divided entry mitsu turbos came on the Evo's and only the X has the turbo oriented in a similar manner to what we have .. the TD05HA-152G6-12T which looks like this:

If the car has a stock (Small/Big/Evo3) TD05H-16G on a stock style manifold it's extremely unlikely that it is divided/split/twin scroll manifold.

They wouldn't even bolt up, and no one thats not huffing paint would design a split manifold for an open-only turbo.

Double check with the seller what turbo/manifold is on the car..

If you get the car, we love to see the community grow!

Just make sure you buy a field service manual, do maintainence and then buy ECMLink, a wideband and later on a proper boost controller (Hallman makes a quality unit) as your first mods to get aquainted with tuning

It's probably a 14B or a 16G, and that looks like a ramhorn open-style manifold that either comes in T3 flange or TD05H.

Open and Divided (split as you refer to it) is with regard to the flange where the turbine housing mounts up.

Divided is where cylinders 1/3 and 2/4 are paired together into seperate nozzles all the way from the cylinder head down to the nozzles in the turbine housing where they exit onto the turbine's inducer side. This is a divided flange:

This is the style of turbine housing that is most generally referred to as divided:

That Evo X turbo is also divided, but that is an MHI style flange and far less common:

This is the MHI flange that you most likely have and it comes on 14Bs and 16Gs:

Which is a single entry, open turbine housing and corresponds to an open manifold, where all 4 cylinders merge together.

They are called manifolds. A header is used on NA engines. They are long tube or short tube in nature. You have a tubular manifold. Next, you can heat wrap those without any problem, it will likely cost you about 150 bux and will unlikely do anything for you with the setup your looking to run. Next, you will need a lot of things to accomplish this 300hp goal of yours. Front mount, hard pipes, larger turbo, afpr, larger injectors, tuner system, logger, mbc, and a well maintained engine to handle the added air volume you are planning to put thru it. I am just starting to get into a position to add the boost I need to make 300hp. Still need to install my AFPR and a new fuel pump and bead roll my intercooler pipes. After doing that I can start to add boost to my setup. I still need a logger before I get to much further into that either.

A 16G or a 14B? All you have to do next time you see the car is have him pull the intake tube off the turbo and look at the compressor wheel.

On the left is a 14B, on the right is a 16G:

Good is subjective in this case considering your goals. We need an actual picture of the manifold. The runners on the one you picked look a bit fat, but spool isn't really a concern on a 16G or a 14B.

the one on the left looks off. like it has the wrong impeller on it. But maybe im not used to seeing that specific one.

I really hate to do this because this thread has quite an array of good useful information, but the O.P. is getting redundant with questions that are easily searchable.

Please do some searching. There are hundreds, possibly thousands of pages of information on this site which answer every question you've asked thus far. We don't need to spoon-feed you answers in order to get you to your horsepower goal.
