Using the "ARP thread chaser" to clean these threads then it will be time to put this cylinder head on

Haha I know! I need to get a new sensor but that right there sums up how it was when I got it, slapped together and butchered. I don't even know if there is a pin input for the microtech ecu I got so I don't know what I'll hook a new one up to

Went junkyard today for Subaru piece I need. Out of the corner of my eye spot this sitting in my local pull it yard first one I seen in years 1993 Eagle talon.

Getting these feeze plugs in. Just wondering if I need to drive it in farther?? Have it sitting slightly below flush with the block but wondering if I need to further surpass the chamfer part

I installed mine so that the top of the freeze plug was flush with the bottom of the chamfer for (what I believe to be)100% engagement. I believe either way will work. The Chinese/Dorman I noticed had less contact area/depth than the OE ones. Eeeeeeease em on in there and you should be good to go!
Just my 2 cents, take it fwiw!
🤘🤘

Right on man! Yeah I did some more consulting and searching on the topic and general consensus was get as much surface area to contact as possible. So for the rest of them I drove them in below the chamfer (as you explained). I guess that one in the picture above will be the time test one for how long it holds without being driven in all the way haha. Good thing it's on the exhaust side worst case.

Torqued the 5th gear cover down. Or at least attempted to. 3 of the bolts are stripped and pulled the threads out because someone ugga dugga'd them with a 1/2" air impact instead of the 29 ft/lbs Tim Zimmer told me.

Honestly my heart breaks for the previous owner. Everyone that he trusted and paid good military money to work on this car absolutely took him to the cleaners. The intake pipes were welded by what appears to have been a blind man with down syndrome, that had only a stick welder to work with, and had zero beads rolled for the couplers. The AEM EMS that was installed by being butt connected in(and partially properly soldered in). The engine had loose cam cap bolts(all but like 3-4), legitimately not even finger tight. The transmission has stripped bolts everywhere due to the ugga dugga's mentioned(the trans mount also has like 1 or 2 bolts stripped), the exhaust was absolutely butchered instead of just being properly welded and god knows what else that I've forgotten.

Guy was an active duty military overseas a lot at the time back when the war in Iraq was actually hot, and spent his money with people who absolutely just took it, did the bare minimum, and sent him on his way.

But we'll get it sorted. Eventually the car will be where he originally envisioned and I'll give him a few pulls.

Just drive that one in a bit further. It should be fine OR pull it out and put a new one back in, at the depth that you feel comfortable with! :thumb: Dorman 555-093 for a replacement.

I dropped my bare head off at the machine shop after work yesterday for a surfacing and then I can start the reassembly of it. Hopefully me stripping it will mean less down time waiting on it. :thumb:

Been driveing the car to work everyday now and it rides so good. Drives straight and so comfortable. I been replacing everything to get my cruse controle workin. But to no avail. I replaced the cruse controle module on passenger kicker panel, brake light switch on pedal, the whole cruse controle assembly box under hood. Even tested the vacuum box. It clicks and makes noise when power applied. The vacuum hoses r good. The only thing is the joystick on the steering wheel. What else could it b?

Mounted up my mint gsx wheels I found. On some cheap tires I picked up from my local tire dealer. Not greatest of tires but they are new and will work for now.

Sounds like it's really close. Do you have the FSM for a diagnostic flow chart? The FSM are available on here for free I believe.
That's awesome you're driving it on the regular!

Driving the OG 1G home the other night in the low 30s, temp crept waaaay low, like 112 degrees low on the highway...thermo was stuck. Yep. Swapped and put another 100 miles on er, now she's back to golden. Surprised a new 5.0 mustang. Haha. Dudes neck about snapped off when he drove by, trying to figure out what in the hell I was driving. 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah it's really enjoyable and fun. Getting it looking better and better is the coolest part of it all. But yeah man I don't exactly know what u mean by fsm. Help me out. Lol

Working towards getting the cylinder head on. This may be a little over the top but has anyone ever measured the free length of ARP head studs from block deck to top of the stud? I want to compare what I got on mine. My method of measure and results are pictured below
