I spent Christmas lapping valves :thumb:
They all turned out right in the center of the valve face, which is exactly where you want them. I will have the machine shop surface it for me for a MLS gasket and reassemble it all afterwards. I'd rather do the assembly myself, I just don't have the machining tools to surface or cut valves or seats. I lucked out on this head. It has fresh everything so I just disassembled the stock stuff (that was bent) and will reassemble with new stuff. All the guides looked fine with my naked eye and a flashlight and they feel like a new guide would with a bit of oil and a new valve.

Not the biggest thing but changed my shifter knob. I actually like the way it feels sitting a little higher versus the old weighted knob i had on prior.

Dropped M/T diff to install my J1G A/T diff. I plan on doing the first test drive this weekend after auto swap.

New dowel pin installed and checked the valve lapping I did. Need to make a thread chaser and clean the head stud threads before I install the new studs and cylinder head. Still need a new 7 bolt oil pan but almost got the engine back together!

I used an old head bolt and made a slit in 2 sides of it and cleaned out my threads very good and easy. I didn't even grind the tip flat, it worked great with some BPC and running it in and out a few times. It got lots of crud out.

Your tools look great to me! Good job on them both :thumb:
Now put Blue painters tape on them so they don't get lost. I write on mine what they are so they don't get thrown away accidentally. Hell this head bolt had an Allen head so I definitely would have "pitched" it otherwise.

Since I had a little over 500 miles on the new setup, it was time to check the head stud torque, and do an oil change.

All was in spec and everything looked great. I took a close look at all the tips of the valves and keepers to make sure everything was good to go. The machinist did an excellent job squaring up the head. Castrol Edge 10-30 for full synthetic winter duty. 20-50 VR1 when things heat up again in the summer.

Man, I love the 1G DSM! Can't wait to turn it up on E85 this spring.

Like a work of art man. I’m envious.

Thanks, man! One step at a time. It would've been 10x as hard and taken that much longer had it not been for this forum and the inspiration found here, too!
Stay the course, boosted pulls coming soon for ya!

Hopefully.

I know what my new years resolution is gonna be. ROFL
