After the track day I have had wierd oil pressure. It might be a loose connection on the guage. But when I start it up after it is cold I get good "in the middle of the 2 lines" oil pressure but after it gets warmed up it usually stays all the way to the bottom, and never moves much. It used to stay past the first line. I put full synthetic in last oil change and that dropped oil pressure. So When I burned about a quart out I put lucas stabilizer in and that brought it back to haveing normal pressure at start up, but not while driving.

Could my oil pump be going bad?

Also I am building a 90 block, doesn't that pump have an external oil cooler? And should I get a new oil pump for the new motor? What one should that be, the 90 pump or the early 92 pump?

Can I get a reman pump cheaper?

You may want to try going with an aftermarket oil pressure gauge. It will give you answers that you know are accurate and it will give you readings in actual numbers, not just hash marks. My car's oil pressure readings just recently started to change, but I am not too worried about. Check all electrical connections and be sure that they are all secured and properly hooked up.

As far as your '90 block build up question goes... I don't know what I would do in your situation as far whether or not to buy a new oil pump, but you should price it out first. If you do decide to get a new one, go oem. Call up First Team Mitsubishi in Tallahassee, Florida and tell them that you are a "club dsm member." You will get 20 to 30% off. Either Jeremy or Reggie will answer the phone. Good luck. And the '90 motors did come with an external oil cooler setup.

I believe that only the oil filter housing is different on the 90's and not the pump. The front case (oil pump) should be the same for all years(6 bolt of course). The filter housing on a 90 is setup for an external cooler thats mounts to the front of the car. The 91-94 housing use a water cooled system. www.diamondstarmotorsport.com sells an after market housing for the 90 setup as well as used parts for either one. I personally prefer the the 90 setup and will be keeping it when I build my new motor.

my oil pressure used to bounce all over the place like while driving it would go up and then at idle it would drop. but recently right at start up the gauge is pegged to the high pressure end. i dotn know whats going on.
