menomonee falls, Wisconsin
so i currently have my car at a shop that specializes in Evo's. lierally all he had there was 10 evo's + 1 srt neon. My goal is to safely run/tune my 14b at 17-18 psi. whatever hp i get, i get. dont really want to buy an afpr, already way upside down.

couple questions:

Stock injectors should be sufficient right? even at 80-90% idc (if not 100)

guy told me i can throw in a 255 fuel pump and NOT rewire it with a stock fpr and be fine.

anyone tried this?

or am i stuck with a 190+rewire.

I just got link v3, still on stock tune. 14b with my MBC turned to 12-13 psi. I had it to almost touching 15 psi since I read here the stock fuel system can handle up to 16.

I was getting knick up to 4.9 causing check engine light to go on, I instantly let off. I only did one log after turning the MBC down a 1/2 turn. I saw a lil knock jus below 2.

Still learning how to tune so I'm keeping it lower until I have the proper fuel mods.

Guy who runs the evo shop said I'd be OK w/o the afpr on a 255 on stock wireing. Trying to avoid the afpr + rewire if possible

You can just toss a 255 in there it may be a little rich and puff black out the tail pipe, but back befor RRE and Top End performance were household names we threw in 225 /255 fuel pumps and and turned the boost up until fuel cut and then back the MBC 1/2 turn back and let er rip ...... those were days.

Stock wiring is useless, if it were adequate none of us would be rewiring. If you really want to avoid the afpr then don't get a fuel pump that is known to overrun the stock FPR and think you can remedy the situation with using the crappy stock wiring. Over-running your stock fpr will be fun to tune at idle. Some will swear it's fine, the the general consensus is that an afpr is needed for a 255. Under high load the stock wiring will struggle to keep the pump supplied with proper voltage and will not flow nearly as much as it is rated for. I would rather have a rewired 190 over an under-powered 255.
If you only plan on say like 14b or even 16g power then get a 190 or if he really has that many evo's, have him hook you up with an evo 9 or 10 pump for a deal. 255 is not needed for 14b.
That's my input on the matter hope it helps.

No plans on a turbo upgrade at this time. Fwd will just spin anyway. That's what I was thinking, 190 or something similar. I always seek multiple opinions b4 I do anything to my cars. And like 30/30 ppl jus say "go with a 255." Even tho I'll most likely never need one

That's only because most people always want more so the theory is "do a 255 now so you don't have to upgrade down the road". Any of the pumps I mentioned will be perfectly fine for a 14b/16g. But I would recommend you do a rewire, it's like 15 bucks to make sure your pump is getting its voltage. It's your car and your plan but if you know you will never need a 255 then what is the point...
Look at it this way, if you do get a 255 and it does in fact overrun your stock fpr tuning at idle will suck and you will have to buy another pump (smaller) or an afpr... Just food for thought.

Use the formula hp x 0.42 = lph. You'll see that a 190 and a rewire will outflow anything you could ever make on a 16g. You have a 14b. So a 255 is not needed.

Stock injectors:
450cc @ 100% IDC will support 32.30lbs/min
450cc @ 80% IDC will support 25.84lbs/min

Ideally you want to stay below 80%.

Walboro 190lph (Rewired)

10psi = 60.68lbs/min
11psi = 59.85lbs/min
12psi = 59.01lbs/min
13psi = 58.16lbs/min
14psi = 57.29lbs/min
15psi = 56.40lbs/min
16psi = 55.49lbs/min
17psi = 54.57lbs/min
18psi = 53.63lbs/min
19psi = 52.67lbs/min
20psi = 51.70lbs/min
21psi = 50.71lbs/min
22psi = 49.71lbs/min
23psi = 48.68lbs/min
24psi = 47.64lbs/min
25psi = 46.58lbs/min

Your injectors are slightly undersized and you pump is slightly oversized. I wouldn't worry about a pump at all. Find yourself a set of 550cc's-750cc's (whatever you find a good deal on) and call it a day.

Good info as always guys. Thanks much. I'll get a 190 and do the rewire. I read the fwd vfaq seems easy enuff

Why the heck did he run the wires inside the car? Can't I just follow the stock routing?

I'm in WI and have a daily. My car prolly won't even see rain...

Oh i was under the impression you already had a 190 pump in the car. If you want to wait and do the fuel system at the same time you could.

You could just rewire the stock pump for now. It will flow 133lph. Which, if its a healthy pump, "should" max out a 14b, or very close to. 300hp x .42 = 126lph. Either way, you'll still run out of injector first.

If this is your first time tuning it could be a fun learning experience to tune the car to run 80% idc on the stock injectors. Which should net you close to 250whp. A massive improvement over stock.

Plus that way you're pump set up will already be rewired so when you go to do the fuel system you can toss in a 255 pump, afpr, and some injectors.

Just some food for though.

No sir, I got my car bone stock back in Nov. Been trying to follow the stage 1 path here on tuners. At this point I'm tapped out $ wise for a while and wanna "max out" my 14b. Just doing research to make sure I have the correct amount of fuel.

Also I have read/been told that the 14b "maxes out" at 17-18 psi. So that's my magic #. Its a fwd so.... Pretty sure my 14b will pack plenty of punch to start spinning tires anyhow.

Was trying to avoid going inside the car, shouldn't be necessary I'm thinking. I mean, why tear apart the interior if I don't have too....

the stock wiring goes inside the car back to the fuel tank AFAIK... its not too bad to pull up the carpet and trim on 1 side, plus youre less likely to have the wire degrade from elements, impact, foreign objects or animals.
