I doubt it's the ISC, I've seen them go out and it's a very different behavior at idle and it doesn't affect much of anything once the throttle plate is open. Vacuum (boost) leaks have to be HUGE to actually make the car shut off. I had a capped 5/16" port on my intake manifold open up and I could still limp the car home with a little throttle control. Common sized boost leaks though, can absolutely cause headache inducing runability problems like you're having.
EDIT: Had to reread, saw you've done a boost leak test already.. At this point a data logger would be extremely helpful, I'm almost starting to suspect a TPS or MAF issue.

I think I may just take it to a shop and see what the hell is going on.... This car became more of a project than I thought it would be :(

There is nothing listed in the mods section because there is none. Car is completely stock.

I can sympathize. Come talk about it in 20 years. Datalogger is cheap. Good tool to have.

Best place to buy one?
 
Well I've just been informed we have more than one issue with your car.

The cutting out, the huge exhaust leak going on, the idle surge..So where do we start?

That "exhaust leak" is the previous owner brilliant idea of how to make his car sound great... Cut it. I ordered a new cat back yesterday. Waiting for it to get here. Until then, the cut out issue is probably the biggest issue running wise and I'm hoping that it may be linked to the surge issue? Probably not with my luck though. I work full time and go to college in the evenings, so this car is taking up every last bit of free time I have. I just want it to work :(

It's gonna sound all loud, the turbine spinning will be more audible.Just like in the video.I'm not gonna sit there and and go that high in the rpms tho for that long.

You may also want to get rid of the stock DP as well..I dont have the pictures on my phone, but the stock 1g flex mesh crap, is waay more restrictive than I thought it would be..I was curious, and found out.
 
Someone just posted a complete pocket logger setup in the classified section :thumb: You can also test the operation of the TPS with a multimeter.

I'll eventually get full exhaust and manifold. I just simply don't' have the cash right now and am more concerned about it working properly than going fast.



and i just wanted to say thank you to everyone who is helping out this DSM newbie since I've joined this forum. I've never really worked on anything other than pushrod v8s and dodge neons LOL. I'm not too bad with a 420a though! ;) i appreciate all the input guys. :thumb::D

Also, I see that PDA needs the data logger software loaded onto it. What is the cost on that and where would I need to get it from?
 
What are your spark plugs gapped to? Pull the wires out of the coil and check on the shape of the wires and coil. What plugs are you running?

Replaced plugs and wires. Gapped to factory specs. (car is stock) problem still occurs. running NGKs.

Is the 1g droid logger thing still goin on?

I have a stupid iPhone that can't do anything so that won't do me any good... What was I thinking when I switched from Android? :ohdamn:
 
I want to say .032? I know I had them print me off a sheet that had the gapping spec on it. They are NGK GP platinums

Well we mise well start with your plugs..Get rid of the platinums..Ngk 6es, gapped at .028 not .032..

To be honest I don't remember exactly what the gapping was... I just know I gapped them to what autozone's data base said they should be. Are the plugs I have no bueno?
 
They can and are known to in some cases..But back to the plugs..Thats what You will want,like asap before we go any further..

You cannot go forward if there is something stupid and simple that needs the right part.

One of my buddies had a set of plugs he never installed into his because he totaled the car. I installed the 6es plugs and gapped at .028, still runs like shit as i thought it would...
