Winnipeg,
Hi, something really weird happened. Okay i changed my battery like 2 days ago and everything was running fine. Then today i was driving it started idling weird. Then it just started to bog, all interior lights got dimme, power steering got a little tighter, SRS and engine light appear, Deck not working, also turbo misfires and i can bbarely accelerate i barely made it home. The car can't even accelerate either. I'am thinkin either alternator or ecu or something electrical. Its weird like all interior lights are dimmed its fluctuates very weird, turbo misfires, can't even accelerate...... please help me guys!!!! I'm so confused right now is it the alernator or ecu or what?! LOST   Its just waiting in the garage right now......

there is deffinately a leak that whirley noise your hearing is compressor surge, ## bov isn't working at all, put some soapy water on the bov and take it for a quick 1st gear pull the look under the hood quickly, where ever there are bubbles, there is a leak...

BOV problem fixed...... but when i turn the car on it turns over so its not the battery....but after a few mintues lights start to get dimmer.... so obviously this is alternator problem. Anyone on here who has a spare working alternator please pm me.

well guys, im not sure how different the alternators on NON TURBO cars are,
but I had the same exact problem with my 98 eclipse NON TURBO (I also have a 95 Tsi, but its down south or i would look at it right quick) any way my problem is my alternator died, and i put a brand new one in, but on the bottom of the alternator, there is a clip where the ground wire, and the car's electrical harness pluggs in. I guess i didnt plug it all the way in, cause it fell out (silly me). Any way, if the ECU cant read the voltage comeing from the alternator, it just wont charge the battery, or if it does, very little.

srry if this is not helpful, but it never hurts to make sure that everything is plugged ALL the way in.

95 talon Tsi FWD 5 speed :dsm:
96 camaro RS

Always good to plug everything in, but it was just that is wasnt making good connection to charge. The ecu was probly freaking because of not enough voltage to operate properly.

I'll take a look at that, anyone have a pic on how the alternator is suppose to look like with all the wires plugged in.

I dont have a pic, but there is a post on the back, make sure you have the wires with the eye hook bolted onto it.

Whats an eye hook everything seems to be fine all the wires hooked up.....Well i will take it out towmorrow and send it over to autozone. If any of you guys have a better pics because that other website pics isn't too good of the alt... that would be awesome.

If the car will run for a lil while, charge up the battery. Start the car and take off either the negative or positive cable. When you take one of those off, if the car dies. Bad alternator, if the car continues to run then the alternator is ok. It honestly does work, because the alternator should be charging enough to keep the car running.

I think it does run but why does everything dim, can't be battery because it turns over fine. I just think there not enough power in the alt..... or not enough volts. So imma just take it out and get it tested i guess. Wow i hate winter and this cold weather so harsh on your car..... reasons why i'm just storing it.

A eye hook or terminale is just a circle that slips on the post, then its bolted down.

I have yet to try that batterie test on a dsm specifically, but it will not work on any cars that I have tried it on newer than 96.

Its much easier to test the altenator with a voltmeter, like described before. You may also check the batterie by having some one start it while you watch the voltmeter. If it drops under 9.6v the batterie typically is no good. Sever cold weather can have dramatic effects on the batterie itself.

If the car is not in need of a jump start or charging, and it keeps cranking itself up, then the charging system may not be bad. There could be unwanted resistance, make sure to check the main wires for corrosion. It will look greenish.

Okay so i took altenator out a couple weeks ago. I went to partsource and canadain tired and none of them have the damn lead cable. They said its a SH cable..... but it seems like nobody has it. How can i test it if nonone has the damn lead cable. You guys know any other place that might be able to check for me, I live in Winnipeg, MB.
