Winnipeg,
Hi, something really weird happened. Okay i changed my battery like 2 days ago and everything was running fine. Then today i was driving it started idling weird. Then it just started to bog, all interior lights got dimme, power steering got a little tighter, SRS and engine light appear, Deck not working, also turbo misfires and i can bbarely accelerate i barely made it home. The car can't even accelerate either. I'am thinkin either alternator or ecu or something electrical. Its weird like all interior lights are dimmed its fluctuates very weird, turbo misfires, can't even accelerate...... please help me guys!!!! I'm so confused right now is it the alernator or ecu or what?! LOST   Its just waiting in the garage right now......

Okay so i changed the fuse...... but guess what my bov tubing snapped off with my connecting thingy that connects with the vacum line. So when i turned it on it idled really high and then just bogged up and turned off......you think its because of the BOV not connected. Like i gotta find a new cconnector for BOV since vacum line not even hooked up with the BOV but i wouldn't see why it would bogdown because of that. But fuse was changed and there still a problem....help guys!! What you guys think it might be?

You should have been able to visually check the fuse before rplacing it. Was the metal in the middle burned or broken?
Get your hands on a Voltometer or If you have a turbo timer look at the voltometer function. Make sure that when the car is running it reads between 13-15 volts. 12.9 or less is not enough charge,15 or more can destroy a batterie even blow it up.
Find your power steering, its the unit right at the top really easy to see, the alternator is directly under that.
The BOV thing is a must fix, but that wont cause all your check engine lights to come on.

But see there is no engine light it does turn on but then bogs down and turns off i'am guessing this because the BOV not hooked up........ PLus when you turn it on it idles high and then just goes down to 0

Okay i just got the elbow piece for the BOV since my other one snapped....... and changed the fuse the cars fine now. But the BOV is not making the psssh noise it suppose to make, its making a whirling noise now...... is there not enough boost..... is the air too cold or something? Is there a leak or somewhere because there no leak around the BOV.

If the line is attached to the BOV then it shouldn't make the pssshhh sound. That should only be present if you are venting to the atmosphere, which would be wrong. In the stock setup you wouldn't hear that sound from the valve.
If it's running good now and you're not having any problems bogging down or accelerating, leave it alone.

Okay guys cars running weird again.... like seat belt lights comes and goes away and SRS button comes up and goes away. The deck goes on and off lights are dim. Lights are dimmed..... so i guess its the alternator? Are there any tutorials that show me how to take the alternator out so i can send it in too get it checked........ Man and yesterday i thought it was working fine....... eerrrrr

Well i think ull be needing a new idle control valve right behind the throttle body......im pretty sure thats ### idle problem is....and keep in my the alternator is connected to that. ...hav u removed ## heat shield from the turbo.......if so i'd recommend putting it back becaz ## alternator z rit beisde the turbo.........and a lot of ppl have this problem where the alternator just stops working........i wud check the idle control and check up on the heat shield.

Ya i don't have a heat shield but its winter here..... i think its because i was running the system in the winter stupid movie. But ya i'am pretty sure its alternator problem. I'll try different things....... If anyone else thinks it can be anything else let me know. My heat shield doesn't fit.... couldn't i just put some sort of spray or even tinfoil?

does the car continue to start on its own? Because if it does then its probly not the altenator. The batterie will have been drawn down enough by now not to continue to start the car. Also check for any grounds may have become loose.

ALso i have the old battery and yes it turns on fine but after a couple minutes it starts too dim and screw up...... sounds like a battery ? If it is what is a good battery size people told me 86 or 75.....

If it was the batterie itself that was bad, the starter wouldnt get anough amp to turn over the motor at that point. So i doubt its the batterie. Its almost seem as tho you have a huge draw on the electrical system.

So if its not the alt, the battery....what can it be.....I still havent' got the alternator checked yet. But if it isnt the problem i don't want to even bother to take it out. Also my battery is not good its 10.2 so i'm going to try another new battery. Still so confused.

Okay i have to conclusion that i think its the ALT..... so i'm going to take it out and get it checked out. The car turns of fine but lights are dim, deck doesn't go on... that means the alt is not giving the battery enough energy... i guess..

well..take the Alt out, get it checked out and pop another one in there if the first one is bad and let us know...I'm kinda curious...did you ever find out how to take it out yet...? O_O

Once you have the alternator out and checked, let us know how it is.

You have to unbolt the power steering and set it aside, then take the altenator out from the top. If I recall there is not enough room to take it out throught the bottom.

Okay i'll be taking it out....is there a way you can repair/fix a alt or you have to buy a new one. Also if their is anyone on here who wants to sell there alt please pm me. I'am selling my car in the spring so i don't really care if its used or not.

most alternators can be rebuilt but usually dont last as long as a new alternator

i usually buy a new one because most generally it will last longer and i wont worry about tearing it out of the car again

Well i'am selling car in spring which is during march/april. So i temproary one won't hurt. Do local shops rebuild and how much is it typically... also if there any people here who have a decent alt please pm me!

like silver eclipse said before, prior to pulling the whole alternator out without even knowing if it is the problem or not you could check it. Obtain a voltmeter (usually available for loan from a parts store) and while the car is running, connect the voltmeter to the battery. if the voltmeter does not read about 14 volts, then your alternator is the problem. If it does read around 14 volts then you must find the true problem. Usually if the alternator is bad, it will not charge the battery and you must jump the car to start it.

In the way of new or used alternators, you can take your alternator (if it is the problem) to an auto parts store such as autozone or NAPA and get a new one. By turning in the old one, they will give you a decent rebate. I believe this is the best way to go.

Okay so i get a voltmeter will be a faster and better way isntead of just taking out the alternator. How much will they give off if i give partsource the old one usualy. Alaternators in general aren't too cheap.
