alright i just got my car back from the shop, i had them put on a complete head i purchased, with hks camshafts and unorthodox camgears.
the reason i put the car in the shop was because it would smoke like crazy, white/blue smoke. smoke durting idle and crazy when i step on the gas.

alright so i get my car back today and start it up and no smoke at idle so im like great. so im driving down the road and i notice everytime i shift a puff of smoke comes out like bob marley is smoking a joint in my exhaust. someone please tell me what the F is going on. im very very pissed.

Generally, a puff of smoke during the gear change is from worn rings. If it was turbo related, it will probably smoke any time you boost. If it was a hg, smoke should get progressively worse as engine temp increases.

it does smoke alot when i wot and the boost goes up, then ill shift gears and the smoke will stop when i press in the clutch and start up as soon as i continue with the gas.

im about to go check my licp right now and then i might even do a compression test to check the rings. ill let you guys know what ive found out in a bit.

ok i went out took off the intake and checked for shaft play, it moves just ALITTLE bit, like 1/16th of an inch. i took off the licp and put my fiinger down in it and nothing. while i was check all this i looked at my coolent tank and its BONE DRY. i remember looking at it last night when i got home and it was down to the second line...

I've read on these forums if you can move the shaft at all it's too much. That's probably what Defiant is getting at.

WOW more problems,,,,

alright i just got done doing a compression test and i got 175, 180, 180, 180. seems pretty good right.
i took a flash light looked in the spark plug chamber for coolent, No coolent.

so i put all the spark plugs back in and start up my car and it almost dies, I get a CEL so i look it up on my palm pilot.
these are the codes im throwing..
p0110: intake air temperature curcuit...
p0100: it doesnt give a discription anyone know this one????
p0105: manifold absolute pressure/ Barometric pressure circuit.

what else could go wrong with my car............................................................

The other one is probably "volume air flow sensor". All three are located in the MAS so check and make sure that it's plugged in, wire harness uncompromised and test with another mas is need be.

here is a pic i just took this morning before i did the compression test. the car is warmed up and everything

yes my dumb ass forgot to plug the mas sensor back in. my bad....

Does it look blue in person? That kinda look blue to me. how are you pcv and breather valve routed? Have you experienced dipstick pop out lately?

my breather valve is connected to a mini filter then right into the intake, my pcv valve is normal. (stock) i did used to have the dipstick pop out until i got a new one.... should i take the pcv valve off or what??
yes its blue in person

If it's blue then I would do the following.

1. Make sure the pcv isn't stuck open or closed and the filter on your breather isn't clogged.

2. Pull the turbo and check the hot side, just because the cold side was dry doesn't mean all is well on the hot side.

3. Pull the manifold and check the exhaust ports as well as the exhaust valve seals/guides for signs of oil leaks.

4. Follow that compression test up with a wet test to determine the conditions of the rings.

Good luck.

Does anyone know if this is the hg, cracked head or bad turbo seals? I seem to have the same problem. It seems to only stop smoking after I push the car hard. Could it be the turbo seals getting hot enough to stop the leak?

Can't really tell, #2 looks good but 1 and 3 doesn't, could just be lighting though. What do they look like to you? If you're going to take more pics, shine a light right into the runers.

If i am seing those pictures correctly then that would be the valve stem seals. Have they ever been replaced?

so what are we looking at here, bad valve seals or what.
Picture 1 & 3 definitely looks like leaky exhaust seals but doesn't mean turbo and rings are good until you follow through with checking the turbo and perform a dry and wet compression test. BTW I re-read the whole thread and see that the head was replaced, was it rebuild with all new parts including the guides?

should i even bother taking apart the turbo.
I would at least remove the o2 housing so you can shine a light up in there.

Okay that first pic looks like bad valve seals. You can burn valve seals real easy if you had a bad exhaust leak out of that side of the manifold. If I had to make a call, I'd say those valve seals are your problem or its yer piston rings. just my 2 cents.
