The last couple times I've let my car sit overnight and started it in the morning, it has sometimes started smoking alittle, smelling of oil. But then it would clear up, so I figured it was valve related to some oil leaking down overnight. Well, today I started it and it smoked more than I've ever seen a car smoke, reaking of oil, and wouldn't stop. I drove it alittle bit down the road to see if it'd clear up and it didn't. It did sputter alittle, like a backfire, and seemed to clear up alittle after that, but I was just about home. And wanted to turn it off immediatley incase it was a major problem. I didn't boost at all. It's 24 degrees out, so I'm not gonna mess with troubleshooting now, just hoping if someone has had the same exact problem and would chime in. Also, I haven't been boosting the car very much lately or driving it hard. It just started this out of nowhere.

Happen to me before turned out to be valve seals. The car would smoke bad then after a while it would missfire, you could see the exaust manifold gasket soaking up oil.

Check your turbo for shaft play. This is the time of year when I see the most turbo failures for some reason.

valve seal can die bad to where oil is gushing into the cylinder but this problem could be caused by your turbo and possibly your rings actions need to be taken like compression test, cylinder leak down test ect....

When I first bought my DSM I was told that the turbo was going bad. I would start it up and it would smoke a bit and also smoke untill I got it to about 45mph. Then when I stomped it to the floor there would be tons of smoke but then would clear up while I was cruising. I have taken my turbo off and there is sooooooooooooooooooooo much shaft play that it is insane. I could move the shaft and here clicking from how much play is in the turbo.

What I am trying to say is that I agree with MrBoxx :thumb:. If it is your daily driver I would make sure to check the oil frequently and make sure that you do not run your car low on oil. And also when you have the time just check and see how much play is in the turbo.

Sadly it may be time to buy a new turbo :banghead:

imo its either the valve stem seals or turboseals. Then again if it looks like your burning antifrreze to(not saying you are) it could be the headgasket.

I hate to bring an old thread back. But for searching purposes, and to [RESOLVE] this. I bought a new EVO16G from ExtremePSI, my 14b had some shaft play, seals were shot....problem solved. "Thank you" to everyone who chimed in. DSM 4 life :thumb:
