What are these and why is one of them smoking badly?

Not 100% sure if the smoke is coming from one of these, or something under them, but I really looks like it is coming directly from one of them, right where the line meets the boot looking thing.

It created white smoke for a good 10 minutes after the car was turned off.

No it looked dry. That's what I thought... Coolant due to the smoke being white, but I didn't see any... I am having transmission problems as well btw.

The ones in front are vacumn lines, the ones with the rubber boots are your shift linkage. Did you spray pb blaster somewhere to loosen up some bolts? I did that to my exhaust mani bolts, drove the car 3 days later and it still had the pb on it and was smoking for 10 mins.

I am having transmission problems as well btw.

i think you should re-connect you shifting linkage, that might fix your tranny problems

You guys rock on the linkage! I will definitely fix that asap! As for the smoke, is there any way that could cause it to heat up enough to smoke? I did spray pb recently, but not in that spot. On the O2 housing, and on around the alternator pulley. This seems pretty isolated to that area...

check any wiring around there, idk there isnt much there to cause smoke unless the engine is getting hot.

there is a coolant line running from yout tb to the water pipe, its rubber that almost always leaks unless somebody took care of it, also make sure your heater core hoses are not leaking. oil may be coming out of the valve cover through the hose that is suppose to go back into your intake tube, or a better place to put it is down the back of your transmission on the ground .

maybe let it warm up and see if it stops?

Were you working on the car before it happened? Or did it just happen all of a sudden?

I was working on the car. Replaced o2 housing and downpipe, tried unsuccessfully to fix a squeaky belt, did a compression test, fixed a battery terminal, and tried unsuccessfully to fix a boost leak on my uicp.

On a positive note, I reconnected the shift linkage without replacing the clamp yet, and my car shifted into first and reverse flawlessly! I won't be driving until I fix the clamp though, and then only long enough to get it smoking again to try to isolate that better.

That's good news bro! Good job on the shift linkage. If nots not smoking up anymore then most likely it was just something that was evaporating. It its consistant then you have a proble, drive it around for a bit and see if anything happens.

Clean, tighten and/or replace your ground cable. The electrical system is trying to go through your shift cables.

Very insightful, could this have anything to do with the fact that my exhaust was not grounded before I did my last bit of work, and when I installed my new dp, I corrected that?

I could not find the proper clip to hold my shift cable in, so I tried a snap ring. It keeps popping it off though...

I definitely have plans on re-grounding the car. Unfortunately I'm having trouble finding 4 gauge ring terminals.

You're probably missing a block grounding wire. Wal*Mart has them on the shelf. Any automotive shop should have a match for that shifter spring clip.
