alright i just got my car back from the shop, i had them put on a complete head i purchased, with hks camshafts and unorthodox camgears.
the reason i put the car in the shop was because it would smoke like crazy, white/blue smoke. smoke durting idle and crazy when i step on the gas.

alright so i get my car back today and start it up and no smoke at idle so im like great. so im driving down the road and i notice everytime i shift a puff of smoke comes out like bob marley is smoking a joint in my exhaust. someone please tell me what the F is going on. im very very pissed.

My car burns oil like crazy, it only smokes after I sit at a red light for about 2 mins then I start driving and it smokes like hell :sosad: . Everyone including some guy at a Mitsu dealer says its my valve seals. I wonder if thats your problem

If its white and blue smoke, may be your head gasket. Pushing oil and coolant into the cylinders and burning out and smoking out the exhaust. Also could be turbo seals going bad. Im leaning towards the former. How much boost and what gasket?

you might have blown the engine or even cracked the block

WTF

Dude, please don't offer advice if you have no idea what you're talking about. You may have cracked the block seems to be your answer for everything.

He just got the car back from the shop after getting the head replaced. Chances are it's not a cracked or blown engine but rather, it's as project_tsi stated the head gasket, or possibly the turbo seals. Wouldn't be unheard of for the head gasket to be leaking right from the shop.

Check your oil for signs of coolant and do a compression test and see what you have. Also, how many miles are on the bottom end? Is it possible your rings are worn? Is the head that you put on new?

i was going to say a blown head gasket, but its not smoking white smoke constantly like it would mostly do when your car blows its head gasket. But just to be on the safe side I would do a compression check to make sure its not the head gasket. If thats not it, I would do what project_tsi said and inspect the turbo.

My money is on the turbo, unburnt oil pouring directly into the exhaust will be white with a tiny faint of blue. Puff of smoke in between shifts also points to the turbo, soon you should be blowing light blue smoke whenever you get into boost as the situation gets worse.

is there a way i can inspect my turbo to see if the seals are bad? or what should i do?
Pull the licp and check for oil, pull the intake pipe and check for shaft play, pull the exhaust turbine housing which will tell you if the leak is coming from the manifold or turbo.

Beat me to it LOL. :thumb: I was going to say pull the the intake and check for the play, pull the turbo off to see if its coming from the turbo. I didn't think about pulling the licp.

You need to do a leak-down test...it's more important than a compression test. A compression test will tell you what condition the engine is in as far as cylinder pressures are concerned but doesn't tell you where the pressure is going. A leak-down test will tell you if the pressure is going into the cooling system by presenting bubbles in the coolant. If you listen to the exhaust exit and hear a hissing noise than the exhaust valves may not be seating properly or you have a leak somewhere in the exhaust system...etc. If you take off the intake hose and here noise then you may have a leak in the intake tract. If you take off the oil cap and hear noise comming out than you probably have a blown head gasket etc. If you have any questions...post em' up! Good luck.

P.S. Old man...if I'm wrong than please "humble" me. :thumb:

ok well its dark here so im going to do it in the morning, if it is my turbo. do i need to get a brand new turbo or what??
It depends on why it's leaking oil. If you find excessive shaft play, a new turbo will be needed, finding the cause is still crucial before slapping on another. If the problem is due to higher oil pressure, poor oil return or excessive crankcase pressure, the problem could be temporary if the cause is fixed in time.

Here we go again. :)

This is correct.

A leak-down test will tell you if the pressure is going into the cooling system by presenting bubbles in the coolant.
Which means head gasket.

If you listen to the exhaust exit and hear a hissing noise than the exhaust valves may not be seating properly or you have a leak somewhere in the exhaust system...etc.
Bent exhaust valves or not seated properly, nothing to do with exhaust leaks.

If you take off the intake hose and here noise then you may have a leak in the intake tract.

That will more likely be the piston rings.

You too. :p

All in all, you did a little better than yesterday. :tease:

Ahhemmm...thanks. WTF
By exhaust leaks...I meant valves. ;)

The oil cap & piston rings...ok, you got me there.

Old man...you make me laugh.
You---> :tease: ROFL <---Me
