Ok so i just finished putting my 91 tsi awd back together, and now its dripping fluid down between the tranny and teh transfer case. Its coming down smack dab in the middle of the transfer case (halfway between the fill and drain plugs), and looks to be coming from above it.

Its definetly transfer/transmission fluid (NOT oil), but i dont know what would cause a leak from the middle of the transfer case?

Its not the yoke or rear seal beacuse the u joints and surrounding areas are dry, and i can literally see the fluid drip down the bellhousing between the transfer case and tranny??

Did you check the seal for the shaft that goes from the trans. to the transfer case.

It is either the oil seal that goes around the transfer shaft inside the transmission - hard to get to, or the oil seal that goes around the transfer shaft collar in the transfer case - easy to get to.

Either way, they are the same seal, and will run you $6, so it will just cost you some wrench time.

I just replaced the one inside the transmission while it was on the car, following roughly this post.

Good luck

might be the seal where the driver side drive shaft plugs into the trans. thats right above the transfer case too
