Hey everyone. I'm having this problem with my power steering pump on my 2G what we just finished a 6 bolt swap. Its driving me crazy. I started to add fluid to it because it was obviously dry from being unhooked and it started groaing. So I figured I need to keep bleeding out the system to get all the air out and was turning the wheels back and forth to do so.

As I was doing this, I just happened to give it a couple of quick revs and as soon as I did this, the steering got extremely hard and quit working. There was no longer the groaning of the pump, it was quiet. The wheels are extremely hard to turn. For some reason the power steering will not work and is this is the second pump and its doing the same thing. I made the mistake of swapping over the pressure valve from the first pump to the second pump.:banghead: So, I can't rule that out as being the problem, and that other valve is long gone.

I did notice that when I unscrewed the pressure releif valve there was no piston or spring that popped out like there is in 1Gs. Im not sure if the 2Gs are the same design or not? I thought if they are the same design, maybe that spring and piston are stuck in the bore, because I can see what whats looks like a piston in the bottom, but wont come out.

I'm not sure if its a rack problem or what? Like I said the power steering worked great sitting there at idle until, i revved it up. Now theres no sound or anything coming from the pump, like the pump is not circulating the fluid at all. I don't know how revving it up would effect the power steering system like that. This same thing happened with both pumps, but i used the same pressure valve. Im at my wits end. Thanks for any help.

Well a customer of mine with a n/t steering just got hard out of nowhere,i inspected the system but he had no leaks,so i put on a reman pump, still hard.Ended up having to change the rack.See if you can unbolt the pressure line off the rack,if there is signs if metal shavings in the fluid.
