As always, things don’t always go according to plan.

We were certain we had good valves but after spending an obscene amount of time searching- nope, we don’t.

Fortunately, there was still enough to get done.

We finished cleaning out the head and now it’s all good, ready to go.

Got the trans pulled out (literally) and clutch ready.

Got ready to put the engine in the bay and off of the god awful engine stand we have (we have so many yet constantly use this garbage one that does not do what you need it to). But then another snag: The mounts are in storage so we had to run into town and to the far side of it just to get them.

Nothing is ever easy nor does it go how you want it to.

Finally, after 7 hours, we got ‘er in! Since we don’t have the right (or any) valves, we just put the head and valve cover on for protection.

Putting the clutch and trans in was pretty easy between the two of us. Holding it up with my legs while matt got the bolts in was wild but thank goodness for lifting, no?

Ended the day with getting the t-case on (temporary, we still have more to do, of course) and pushing her back into her home

Looking forward to the next time we can take some time and get even further

We are hoping to take a day off (gonna be weird.. what’s a “day off,” ) in the next couple of weeks to get some more done now that the valves are ordered and here!

Getting really excited for 2021 and being able to get back to the track/streets. Gonna be a fun year of enjoying the shit out of my dream talon! Added a photo of where we left off back in September (holy moly, that’s the last time we took time off!)

Got a tiny bit done today.
Valves in, head on, cams and cam gears in and on, so that’s nice.
It’s funny how you go into the day thinking you’ll get much further than you do and then BAM you’re reminded that if something can go wrong, it does

Sent the car off to our friends over at Exquisite Auto Spa in Elm Grove, Wisconsin for some pampering! Had the premium ceramic coating, full interior and exterior detailing, and tint (once the car is done, we will finish it!)

I noticed that too. Wondering if they went with some Laser mirrors or just painted the Talon mirrors.

Yep! Zak had the whole car repainted when he owned it and painted the mirrors white, too!! People seem to love it or hate it, no indifferent in between
I like how it makes it a bit different. Subtle and clean!

Been a bit since we’ve updated!
As some of you know, Clunkbox broke and while we had been trying to figure out what to do about that (the setups with my car and that are so similar), it’s definitely made it easier with it being a pain to get running again.
im going to get the dogbox transmission back and the setup from that car will be my backup one (assuming everything’s ok, anyway, which we strongly feel like it is).
i have been going back and forth about a new manifold and hot parts for it, too. Part of me wants a bottom mount because, well, hide all the things (!) but then the standard top mount is just so iconic. It’s such a hard decision!
anyway, we pushed it out this weekend and sprayed it down which was nice
