Turbo opinion.

Hello! I'm sorry to bother you all here today, but I have a quirky question regarding this turbo! I got it from a friend as he gave up with building his GSX, he had a turbo he bought for $900 and willingly gave it too me, non-installed per say. Anyways I really don't know what kind of turbo it is. All I know was what I was told and seen. It's a STS turbo, 57 trim, that it's a T4 and all I know is that I would need a new exhaust Manifold with V band. Well since I am identifying it, it defeats the purpose of the thread name . I was on STS website to try and find it but they have nothing on DSM, so I'm gonna guess it's a custom turbo built for another car but would work much better for a DSM. I wouldn't know, I know I would like to install this if possible, I'm already set to get me new cams, I have DSM link v3 with Speed -Density set up 880cc injects, FP race manifold on a 16g withAEM wideband (narrowband sim). I know I want to get either FP2 or kelford 272's depends on what is available on the classifieds. I know If I have to get a new mani with V band I will. I just want some opinions on this Turbo.

If I told you I was an IDIOT, would you believe me? what you just said I tried to register in my mind and all I get were sparks! seriously Wheel dimensions? Size, power capabilities! All I know is from what I was told, I would have to ask my buddy on that one. All I have are pictures.

The measurement on the compressor and turbine wheels will help tell a lot about the turbo, as well as the AR size of the turbine-exhaust housing.

I would bet the turbo is for a domestic application as I think that's what sts mostly does but can't say for sure.

we cant see the badge with the turbos specs on it... just google the part number or report back here and we can let you know what to expect from the turbo..

Two things come to mind.

1) A T4 turbine housing on a turbo with a T04E57 compressor wheel is massive overkill for a 4-cylinder application.

2) Historically, 57-trim compressors are POOR performers on DSM's. Example:

They suck on a dsm. I ran one on my car. Fully built engine/cams, on e85. It was the 57trim compressor, with a t31 stage 3 turbine in a .63ar t3 housing. Precision sells it as the sc3431. It was a lag monster, and when it finally spooled it flowed a little more than a 16g up top. Complete waste of time. It also surged above 25 psi. However, the 50trim, and 60trim wheels work great on a dsm.

That in mind, this turbo has absolutely nothing to offer you.

listen to him, it sucks on a dsm. It will be a downgrade.

I'd ditch that thing and go for a 50 trim. But then again, that's just me.
