Opinion on this turbo kit

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

opinion: I would never use any of those parts on my car, even thought I have a 4g63. Maybe the manifold, then fabricate everything else. and purchase quality supporting parts.

The first kit has an authentic turbo, so that is a plus, but not worth the amount. I would follow the link below and see what you need for your turbo conversion.

The second link looks like all "ebay" made in china components. Generally poor quality control on components. That turbo does not look authentic.

I have to agree. The first one looks better but I wouldn't do it...

I have a 420a eclipse and I would just buy a genuine turbo and fabricate everything else myself if I really wanted to make it a turbocharged car. You can get really nice piping for cheap and in custom angles a lot of places, mount an intercooler, have an exhaust shop make an exhaust for you and get all the necessary gauges and be way better off than those kits...

Turbonetics has made some really awesome turbos. You're going to pay for the name, but I don't think its worth gambling for on ebay. I have read about Turbonetics brand turbos being faked and sold on ebay.

You'll save your self money and a headache if you just piece together your own kit

The only problem I have will building my own kit, such as welding my down-pipe and manifold.. I just would rather be able to do this a little more quickly, instead of finding someone that can weld them nicely and then wait for them to be done with it, and also trying to shop for certain sized pipes and then have them bent for me.
I want to be able to do it fairly quick, but of course being careful with it and taking my time. I just don't want to have to sit around and wait for other people.
I can weld, but not perfectly.
Putting it all together is already going to be one project, I don't want to have to have a separate project of making it myself.

If I buy the turbo kit piece by piece for what I need for it, is there a possibility that something wont match up? Such as the Manifold to the Turbo?

And Am I missing anything?

Turbo
BOV
Wastegate
Turbo Manifold
Intercooler
Intake filter
Piping Set
Down Pipe
Oil Line Kit
Wideband
FMU
PortFueler
and the internal gauges needed

Honestly a 2g manifold wouldn't be hard to find, and for a good price. JusMX would probably have any turbo you would want. Then you need an oil feed line kit, gaskets etc. I don't think its really been discussed, what are you going to be doing about fuel delivery?

Plus you will learn more.

Excellent point.

Don't forget about fuel:thumb:

Yes of course, I would buy new injectors soon after I put turbo on if I decide to go any higher then 6-8 PSI, along with Pistons.

Okay so If I buy each of these individually, will they all most likely be compatible with each other?
And I am also concerned I am going to end up buying some crappy branded part.. I'm new to turbo-ing, but I am learning all of this insanely quick.

You don't necessarily need to do everything from scratch. There are plenty of threads on how to and what to use to put together your own kit. Most of which break it down and simplify everything. As far as parts go, you can use the sites supporting vendors or look up reviews of parts by site members.

Regardless of which path you decide to go down, research everything; and just when you think you've done enough research, research some more. For every hour of labor/work you plan on doing to your car, research it for two. This site has a plethora of information so use it:thumb:

I would say your best bet is to find a turbo parts car, or search the parts yard for the stock turbo equipment. This will be the easiest way to get started and you can modify after you set in all your stock turbo components. Don't forget that you will need a turbo computer, knock sensor etc.. In my 1g that im going to convert to turbo i had to hunt down:

oil feed line and drain back tube, turbo oil pan, boost solenoid, throttle body and elbow, computer, knock sensor, inter-cooler, turbo, manifold/turbo. fuel pump, fpr, down-pipe, exhaust, injectors, resistors to match the injectors, o2 sensor from turbo car, Turbo MAF and pigtail, electric fuel pressure solenoid and pigtail, and the list goes on. Keep in mind the wiring of the new electrical components, and that's what im stuck at right now.

Well so far only 2 people in this thread have realized the kits you posted will not fit your car.

Follow this guide here Turbocharging the 4G64

Just instead upgrade your ecu to something like dsmlink or a evo ecu to tune with instead of a safc.

Probly cause it wouldn't save time, money, and effort... He would have to swap out the motor and trans plus alot more after he found them and hope he didn't get screwed. If he was thinking of that it would b smarter to find a gst or gsx and sell his gs.

Ya your right, I should just go ahead and sell the GS and get a GSX and save me one hell of a headache. Would just be a lot easier to get a GSX and upgrade the turbo and such

Would much rather have the AWD anyways

These kits do support my car, and a dsmlink wouldn't work on my 420a engine

Quick question, lil off topic for this thread though.
I got a 99 eclipse GS N/T OZ Rally Edition with 109000 Miles on it.
All the leather interior is in good condition, and some slight sun damage on spoiler.
Same OZ Rims and GSX spoiler as car came stock.

My question is, since its the rally edition, is this car worth anymore then the non-rally. Since they only made this car for like 6 months.

Bought this car for 2800, how much you think I could get out of it?

Well fix your profile then... you dont own a spyder?

No I don't own a spyder, when I registered, I didn't have the option for a regular GS, people say its there, but it wasn't when I registered. I have already told Mod about it, he's suppose to change my profile too.

But ya iv been having to include that I have a 420a in all my threads, just forgot it in this one.

He said that he didn't have access for some reason, what you could do though is there is an option for non DSM owners to list their car. Just click 'other' and just type, "99 Eclipse GS" manually instead of selecting it from the list if it is not showing for some reason...
