Turbo Boost Creep Creeping T25 14B 16G [Merged]

I doubt that I have an exhaust leak because it wasn't doing it with my GT28 turbo that I had on it before. I also don't have any boost leaks in the intercooler so I thought it forsure had to be spark plugs, wires, or coils and it doesn't seem to be either of them.

Could you expand on that? Could be just a bad one that creeps no matter what? Then it causes misfires too? Doubt it.

From what I understand about the E3 turbos is that they all creep..Some to 20,22,25 psi..The only way to prevent this is by porting..Then it doesn't creep as bad or at all sometimes.. But also I've heard that some of the wastegates don't open all the way either. Mr peepers did a great writeup of modding the wastgate flapper to open all the way..

As for the reason why they seem to backfire, I have yet to fully understand..

Have you done any logs of when this is happening? Could it be an intake air heat/lack of fuel/knock kind of issue? Do you have the mods to support the 20+ psi it's creeping to? I really doubt that misfires would be related to the turbo itself, but if it's boosting to 20+ psi, then the possibilty for overly high intake temps exists, along with lean conditions and knock, which could be mistaken for misfires.

I guess I can take it out and port it to see if that will do anything. I would think that with a dump tube going into the atmosphere rather than back into the exhaust would eliminate creep, or at least not let it creep up to 25+. Do you have the link for Mr peepers write up? I noticed the arm moving all the way and the gate opening but it could open more, could I make the arm longer so the gate opens wider?

The same thing is happening to me on my stock turbo im running open wastegate it only happens when i hit around 15 psi. also my intake hose keeps comeing off when i hit boost there is some oil in the tube? can anyone help me out?

You may have a bad seal in the turbo...Get new clamps for your intake hoses..Or tighen them up more..That should stop the hoses from blowing off..You could scuff the tb elbow that might give the hose something more to bite to.. When is the last time you cleaned your intercooler and piping?

well i just bout my car so i haven't cleaned out the piping or any off that yet. but i also just bout a fmic for it. that's what everyone is telling me that the turbo seal is out.

Well I'm going to take the exhaust side of the turbo off and port it to see if that helps it. I would like to upgrade to the 34mm flapper but I'm having trouble finding where to just buy the 34mm flapper upgrade. Hopefully the port will be good enough. I don't want to get an external wastegate because I just got an FP exhaust manifold and I don't want to get rid of it for a tubular one with an external wastegate, but if the porting doesn't work it looks like I'll have to.

Ohh and an external wastgate also helps alot too..I forgot to mention that..Ya you could just switch to external, or do the larger flapper..Porting would also be good though..

Yeah I didn't want to to external wastegate if I don't have to. I just bought the 34mm flapper and I'm going to port it to see how it goes.

I am actually going to borrow my friends tial 38mm WG tonight and hook it up tomorrow to see what the outcome is going to be and keep you guys posted. If the creep is gone then I will open up my WG to see which spring is in it and go from there. His spring is somewhere around 10 pounds so Im going to hook it up directly to the WG without the MBC and see if its going to hold the 10 pounds. I will let you know how it worked out tomorrow.

Just curious, I will be going external soon with a 38mm off of the #1 runner. I was wondering, Which PSI ring should I get in the wastegate? I was thinking, the higher the better since I have an EBC. This is an EXTREME BUDGET BUILD. Will an ebay 38mm work without leaking? Heres the link 38MM Turbo External Wastegate Adj 14 TO 18 PSI BLK:eBay Motors (item 260428477535 end time Jun-19-09 20:10:53 PDT)

I'm going to dump into the atomosphere with a custom dump tube directly off the wastegate. Let me know ALL opinions, good or bad. I already purchased the manifold. I just need a wastegate now. Thanks guys.

Alright first off i did a lot of searching before this and i still cant figure it out. I bought my car around 4 months ago and it had a 13b turbo in it that was cracked so i bought a brand new 14b turbo from turbochargers.com and had it installed by the guy that owned the car before me. everything is fine with the turbo except i have boost creep. It used to be fine with the 13b, right around 12 psi. Then once i put the 14b on it would spool all the way to 20 if i let it, so i bought a new hallman pro boost controller and that helped but im still pushing around 17 psi at redline which i really dont feel safe with. Ive looked on here and it said there's a way to adjust the wastegate actuator rod. or the preload of it? If so is it possible to adjust one on a 14b and how do you do it? Also i saw that another way to cure it is an o2 dump, if so would i get an external or internal and would it need to be tuned? Any help is appreciated:banghead:

I had issues with creep a bit on my 16g.I have an external o2 plummed back into my downpipe ..I hated the sound of the external. You could port the wastgate port and try a 34mm flapper.I would just get somthing to tune with and tune it ### at higher boost, but I'm lazy like that.LOL.A ported o2 housing would probably help.If your running a big exhaust with no cat that will make it creep also.

ya, its got 2.5 inch exhaust with no cat. Did your o2 dump help with the creep at all?

Well...Mine creeped a bit less with the o2 housing but I dont really remember what finally made it quit all together.I think I just ran boost a bit higher.I now run 22psi so I dont see creep anymore. If you get a new o2 housing I would get a ricirculated one.I need a recirculated one I hate hate hate the sound of the external. Its sounds like a massive exhaust leak.imo.I have it plummed into my downpipe now but i'm buying a new dp soon and dont want to hack it and weld it.

22psi? do you have stock internals?LOL i stoped at a tune shop today and they said that as long as i dont hit fuel cut i should be fine considering i got arp head studs too, but i just dont want to run past 15 just to be safe because i have a stock fuel system on it.
Recirculated you mean an internal o2 dump right?

Hey bro, check the newbie files for boost creap issues. Usually with 14b and 2.5 w/o cat, there should only be minor, if any issues. Check all your lines and proper hook up of your controller. Know that IC pipes, exhaust, and intake, raises boost buy a couple pounds overall. What GEAR are you setting your boost at? This makes a big difference when you get into higher gears. Try setting it in 3rd or 4th gear above 3500 WOT , you don't have to take it to redline. It will creap a tiny bit, but 17 pounds is okay. Worst case.........buy a drop in fuel pump or rewire! :ohdamn:

Well i did search it but i couldnt really find anything. My boost controller is turned all the way down right now and its still hitting that high. But ya your right, i dont have to take it to 6500 rpm's everytime. Ill check my lines and make sure everything is hooked up ok :thumb:
thanx for the help!

Yes,My car has bone stock internals now.Stock studs and hg too.I'm just gunna wait till the hg blows then do arps.I had Lucas English tune it and hes pretty much a bad ass.I have ecmlinkv3,pte 1000cc injectors, wally 255 pump, and all that good stuff but bone stock internals LOL.Internal wise I just want a set of fp 272 cams then I'll be good.
Yes I mean internal o2.Or just get a 2g o2 housing and port the hell out of it.
