The STM flange looks similar, only it's CNC not cast
The flange that STM sells is the Straightline Specialties flange that has been around forever. It does not have a raised transition like the Treadstone. The SLS flange has a transition that is contained within the thickness of the flange, causing it to be an abrupt transition.

The Treadstone flange is more like the AMS cast flange that has been discontinued for some time now.
 
Thatll be my go to then also, I'll use my vibrant flange as the jig to keep from flange warpage

The first part isn't a spacer, it was my "head surface simulation piece" . I bought two big 3-4 inch pieces of aluminum, that I will bolt this header to, so that I can back purge etc. I ll post some pictures of that soon.


The FP housing will be more than sufficient! I don't think people really give the FP housing its due credit. Shoot, my car is going high 9s with FP's exhaust manifold, turbine housing, and the same FP3065 being used here. I've been 9.9, English Racing has been 9.6, and Curt Brown has been 9.4, all using the FP turbine housing on an FP3065. Looks great Warren!

Warren, did you consider a smaller diameter tube? I know it's too late now, but I'm thinking 1.25" would be a better fit with such a long primary and small turbo.
How close are they all to matching in length (min/max)?
Those treadstone flanges are nice. I used one with the last manifold that I built. I'll probably become my go-to head flange.

Paul, Good to have you in here.. Its been a while since I have chatted with you sir. I did consider 1.25 at first, but then opted for the 1.5 inch diameter. What I am going to do, is place a exhaust pressure sensor on the car, to see what the back pressure is pre turbine inlet with the evo 3. Then I want to place this manifold on, to determine what the exhaust pressure is with it. It might be better, or even worse!! than the evo3, but I really am just treating this as one big experiment you know, enjoying the hobby. I will say that 1.25 in herently would increase the exhaust velocity due to cross sectional size, the question then becomes, how will she do at say 8000rpm ? Its really a give and take, nothing that you don't already know.

I really like the threadstone flange, I actually got to peeking when I was trolling one of your manifold build threads.. Sooo for that I will say thank you :thumb:

The transistion is really nice and I will be able to smooth things out , once welded

As far as length they are close to 27 inch , I will have to check now, but there is no major discrepancies when I did my rough measuring.

Sunday Morning (6:00-9:30) runner number 1

The welds were significantly different than runner 3 , puddle control was better, however things were still a little hot in my opinion.

Later that afternoon, a dear friend and mentor finished welding runner number 2, the most complex one of the bunch, it is amazing how he used the same settings, of the machine, that I did, and yet his welds were drastically different than mine, the colors were a deep Gold color, gorgeous, rich and vibrant.

I was able to finish up runner number 4 and weld as much as I could of the collector and transistion piece to the flange.

Thanks , I hope I will have a little time tonight to do some more welding on it, I Just got back from the welding store, with full tanks of argon. I would guesstimate within a fortnight :thumb:
 
Have you considered coating your manifolds? On my other car, I run a full-race manifold that has their "black coating" it is still going strong almost 6 years later with associated "engine mishaps". The coatings hold up really well.

I am thinking of having this manifold coated by FFWD. The cost is reasonable for what you get, something for you to consider at least. :)

I too like the uncoated look, I left my shearer manifold intentionally this way. My cars have different looks and different purposes from each other. Here is a shot of the race car's engine bay.

Was that manifold brushed or polished? I find brushed will look better longer but polished is amazinf If you dont get a single fingerprint or oil/water spots.

I didn't realize you had two race cars. Lucky dog.

The shearer manifold, on my 1g was not polished :) it has been through some hefty temperature swings though, which is the likely reason of its patena aesthetics.

The turbine housing on the GT42 as well as what is on the evo is ceramic coated. Both have held up extremely well, given their different uses.

Having these cars is more of a curse than a luxury :) but everyone needs a hobby I suppose. :)

Not in a mood to talk, as it is 1:04am and I still cant sleep, hammered away at the manifold for a solid 4 hours, she is finished . I will talk about some of the challenges that I had with it later.,

next quick quality control on the welds, then off to machine shop to true up flanges, then coating.

That turned out pretty great for your first attempt and being new to tig welding! I hope to get something similar going sometime soon. Just bought myself a tig welder and what better way to practice than doing something like this!

Where did you get all of your straight and bend sections? Or even the flanges?
 
Dude that looks freaking boss. The only gripe I have about it is that I have nothing to reference how large it is, but it looks MASSIVE from the pictures. It looks like you wouldn't be able to have a radiator or a hood anymore from some angles, LOL.
 
I'm no manifold expert, but wouldn't having the collector that far from the turbo really effect velocity on the exhaust? I would be worried about the affect on spool I guess.
