Aloha,
Ok, I found a transmission (several actually) and I am getting it for $300. The problem is I can't get a decent price for shipping. UPS-$550, un-named freight companies-$550, FED-EX ground-$206 Can anyone suggest a better option or a cheaper agency that I can try. The package is 125lbs going from 25271(WV) to 96826(HI) Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

I am using a rubber maid bin. Yeah I know its thin but the only Contico bin around here is too small. I will just use alot of cardboard on the bottom and alot of styrofoam to pad it. I plan drilling holes on each side where the lid meets the bin so I can zip-tie it and Then I will duct tape the hell out of it. Besides I paid like $8 for it hopefully they will accept.

UPDATE!! well i did find a CONTICO bin at Home depot like you guys said... I shipped it off last week it weighed in at 141.5lbs and i shipped it through fed ex which cost me 69.89 total which was alot better than 150+ for UPS.... and it is currently being fixed as i type this :p Cant wait to get it back!! :thumb:

18 gal. Rubbermaid works great. I ship shortblocks this way. It's costs $5 at Walmart. Along with 2 boxes of 1/4 x 3/4 bolt/nut packs out of the hardware department. Now your total is up to $7. Then you go to Home Depot and pick up a 4x8 sheet of 2 inch polysytrene foam. It runs $8/sheet. Total $15.

Drill 1/4 holes in the rim of the container lid with the lid on the container. Once you cut foam and pack the parts, bolt the lid down.

Hey Turbo Monk3y,
Do you know how long it took to get to SHEP?? I am planning on sending mine off, and am curious as to the turn around time to expect. Any info would be great.
Thanks,
Paul

it took The entire shipping to shep, Shep fixing your tranny, and him shipping it back was a total of 7 days VERY fast... best damn shop in the buisness... :thumb:

Whats up guys,
was wondering from anyone who has shipped a tranny before. I want to send my tranny to Shep for a rebuild and I was wondering what some of you guys who have done this before, What did you pay for shipping both ways. Please say where you live to. I just don't want to get killed on shipping because it might be a lot cheaper to get it done locally.

Sent my trnny to dog box racing in new jersy it was 125 pounds 64.97 got there in 4 days
fedx from fl

i shipped my old automatic tranny to someone in VA and it cost $130 for a 140lb tranny. it was UPS though, so it was a miracle she even got it in one piece

I used one of those big rubbermade storage containers. Buy the sturdiest looking one possible and pack it well. The rubber has a tendancy to bow, but it holds pretty well.

I'm about to send my tranny off to Shep for a rebuild. His website says go to Walmart and get Contico Pro-Tuff bin for around $35. I went to two local Walmart but couldnt find any. I'm thinking of maybe I can order the shipping box from TRE. I'm open for suggestions on other alternatives.

If anybody know where I can get one of those Contino Pro-Tuff bin or got some pics, I'd really appreciate! :thumb:

ps. I did search but didn't find what I was looking for.

I think he meant search in DSMTuners.

Be sure to fill the container with those styrofoam 'S' thingies before you ship. And do please drain the transmission oil.

Sorry to nag, but some people... =(

I think you would need more than the styrofoam "S" thingies. Try cardboard. Something alittle more heavy duty than the styrofoam peanuts. It's gonna have to help support alot of weight when the box is being moved around.
