To get my car shipped from Connecticut to Alberta it cost me $1500 Canadian. Do a search on google there are quote forms you can fill out so you can get a general idea. I DON'T recommend getting a car shipped by SEARAIL.

My wife (was girlfriend at the time) had her car shipped from Illinois to monterey, ca last year and it cost her about $650. So if you look around enough, you can find a deal.

Does anyone here have any experience with getting a car shipped to them from another state???? In a couple months or so i will be in the market looking for a 2g 4g63t and there are never really any good deals around my area. thanks for the feedback.

Does anyone know how I go about shipping an entire motor? I know ups probably won't take it. Also about how much will it cost from nj to nc. Also anyone know exactly how much an entire 7 bolt motor weighs. Any help would be greatly appreciated

my guess would be you have to goto a freight company -
I think its even too big and heavy to ship it via greyhound.
Get out your yellow pages and start calling.

Heya guys. I wasn't really sure where I should post this but here goes... I'm just about to order some stuff from dejontool and cannot figure out what my shipping costs will be :( If you go to the shipping section of their page http://dsm.dejonpowerhouse.com/ it has a little chart that would appear easy to read but isnt' seeming to give me an accurate shipping cost. According to the chart my shipping would only be 9$ all the way up to Canada for my two items which are about 220$ total.

Maybe I'm just inept, can somebody help me find the RIGHT shipping cost?

P.S. I already emailed them a few days ago and didn't get a reply yet, I just want to get this stuff ordered!

E-mail is the worst way to get ahold of Dave as he's pretty much a one man show who works pretty long and hard to get all the parts out. Calling him is a guaranteed way to get ahold of him and get your parts.

So I did a quick little search and didn't come up with anything relavent at all or I got threads that went nowhere. Just like the title says does anyone here have any experience with shipping cars across the U.S? I live in San Francisco bay area and I potential buyer of my car lives in Flrida and well I have never done anything like this before. Any good companies to look into? What is the going rate for somethign like this? Thanks in advance.

When I had my RX7 shipped, I did a google search on shipping companies. I created a new email account and used that when I filled out the forms since they will typically email you the quotes (new email so I don't get any junkmail in my regular account). Then I called/emailed back and forth with a few to get a good understanding. What I found is that most of those sites subcontract the carriers (kind of like how insurance companies and its tow trucks work). My friend shipped her Jetta from the Bay Area to NY for over $1.3k to give you some starting point.

Back in 1996 I shipped my VW Scirocco from N.C. to L.A. I dropped it off in great condition and hopped on a plane. A week or so later, my car arrived and the front was dented from the loading ramps, it was covered in splattered bugs, and the shifter was just broken.. (on Veedubs, you have to push down on the shifter to put it in reverse, the guy had pushed it all the way through the floor) i had to push it off the truck and tow it to the place I was staying. The company wouldn't take responsibility for it either.. bastards. If I knew then what I know now, I would've taken 360° pics of the car before and after and sued them for repairs..

So moral of the story, get some reviews or references before you just choose "any" place.

A couple years after that, I gave the car to my brother and had it shipped back to N.C. from here and it made it without any problems.

If you are going to ship i suggest using an escrow service so both sides of the deal are happy.

He has to pay the escrow service all the money, they say they got it, you ship the car and when the buyer says he got the car you get the money.

thanks for the replies everyone, as for the money if the buyer wants to do that its cool with me. If not there is no way in hell the car is leaving my sight unless I have cash in my hand or a cashiers check that has already cleared in the bank.

I shipped a car from Washington to New Mexico last Oct. I recommend using a PRIVATE service. I had my car shipped by itself in a covered car carrier. No dents, no scrapes, car showed up without any problems.... And the guy drove it from Washington to New Mex in one night.

I shipped my GVR4 from Texas to Ohio and it came back with a few minor scrapes and one big mechanical problem. It was driven onto the trailer and by the time it got to Ohio it would not start. I thought it wasn't going to be anything major, but all the intake valves were bent. I would still love to know how that exactly happened. I had to pay for all the repairs too.

I'll deffinately look into that, untimately its the buyers repsonsibility on how he wants to ship the car I was just trying to make it easier for him by getting a good estimated price, appears to be about 1k from all the quotes I have recieved. And also to find a decent company to go with.
