thanks for the replies everyone, as for the money if the buyer wants to do that its cool with me. If not there is no way in hell the car is leaving my sight unless I have cash in my hand or a cashiers check that has already cleared in the bank.

Make sure you wait 2 weeks after the bank clear's the cashier's check. I got raped for 5Gs over a fake cashier's check, the bank cleared it in a day, sent it to the federal reserve, found it it was fake, made my account overdrawn by 5Gs and then I had to pay back the 5Gs to the bank. ####ers!

Our Company was shipping a jeep cherokee from IL to NJ. I ended up with the details so what I did was choose four of the largest ads from the phone book. I figure big ad, money to advertise, they must be doing well. of the four the prices, they ranged from I believe $650 to $780. We went with the cheaper. The agreement was that we drop the car off at the location for the stated price, a receipt was handed to me after the vehicle was inspected inside and out for previous damage. The receiving party would have a money order or cashiers check ready upon delivery. It was not that bad of an experience at all.

I have a GSX that I need to get shipped from Oakland, CA to Seattle, WA. Just wondering if anybody has dealt with a good automobile mover? Thanks!

For you guys that ship out big stuff like front bumper covers, who do you go through to ship? Who has the cheapest rates? And does anyone know what the dimensions and weight are for a front bumper cover offhand?

well i wholesale on ebay and occasionaly i ship some pretty big items and i always go with ups just because there shipping insurance and rates are almost always better in my opinion but then it could differ for you because my ups is an hour away and fedx is 2 and a half hours away from me

Do it greyhound. You will save a lot of money. The only thing that sucks is that you have to drive to the station to ship and the buyer also has to drive to the station to pick it up. A front bumper is not that heavy, I would estimate greyhound charging you about $25 to $40.

Well, I may be moving out of New Orleans to Hawaii. I'm debating on whether or not to ship my car. Most places have quoted anywhere from $1800 to $2200 to ship the car from door to door. Any input from those folks who've actually had to ship a vehicle will be greatly appreciated.

I work in the car rental business and use a company car as my daily driver. This car is just an extra piece of freedom should the job go south. The car is fully paid and has a clear title. I know this car isn't a Ferrari or any kind of classic car, but what do you think?

Is this car worth the trouble? Please vote here and/or there. Thanks in advance.

just keep in mind that you'll have to pay the same again to bring it back. that is if you ever move back to the mainland. i'd do it if i had the money but that's still pretty expensive.

I plan on staying there for a few years. That way I can break up the cost a bit. So, you're saying it's worth shipping?

I'm going to go with a "yes". unless you want to get rid of this car, but if you have friends or relatives in Cali or on the west coast keep your car there and then ship from there to hawaii. westcoast to Hawaii<Nawlins to Hawaii.

I've seen people pay $1,000 to ship a car from Oklahoma to Pennsylvania(I look at the car every day at work) so that seem to be a fair price to cross water as well. So I would have to agree with the population and say yes to that also.

Dude your going to want to bring your car, there isnt many DSM's on the island and if they go up for sale I buy them, LOL. I have three right now over here. The funny thing is that half of the people here really dont know a whole lot about DSM's. It's kinda nice though cause I dont get the annoying Honda revs! But try and get your car in a container!!!! People have better luck that route.

Finally, a local! Do you know of anyone that's shipped a car from the mainland?

And for those folks who have shipped their cars inside the contiguous 48, what companies did you use?

We are here from the mainland and shipped out of CA. Matson brought our car but if you can get with someone else use them. Matson has a contract with the military and thats why we were forced to use them.

The guy that inspected our car prior to shipment told us how they raced peoples cars around. He was aiming towards high end cars but you get the point.

Just make sure to report ANY damage ASAP!!!!!! Better if you do it when you receive the car!

But, for 99% of the people nothing happens and the rest are covered.

Keep in touch as I said before the DSM community is small and a tight nit group.

Im not 100% sure but if you drive to the closest port you may get a discount. I used to have a list for matson but apparently I threw it out. The closest I can think of off of the top of my head was Dallas. But, I bet there is one in Louisiana.

I had some friends move and they spend right around that range. If you just had a plain jane car i would just sell it and buy another but being you got some time and parts etc i would pay the money and get it shipped.

I'll check to see if we have something at the Port of New Orleans. My next bet would probably be Houston.

Any other military or prior-service folks care to weigh in? Trans-Atlantic based info is appreciated as well.
