This will be my first timing belt install, and I am very nervous. I looked at the vfaq but I need more details. Like what should I look out for. I don't want to bend my valves.

Yes I do, and what is phase.Just look out for the timing makes and do u have a balance shaft and if u do make sure its in phase
Okay thanks man I understand now. So I would have to take the belts off the balance shafts. The balance shaft has 3 different positions and if u dont get it right the car will vibrate a lot check this videoYou must be logged in to view this image or video.
Thanks. Sorry I have been busy with work and had a little time to work on her not to long ago just need to find my last can cap boltI highly recommend getting the timing tools as it will make your job easier. Actually you should have the tensioner pulley tool as that is what sets proper tension to the belt. I just did a timing belt on my GSX and all came out well, but dont rush a job like this. After you do this, you will realize a TB job on these cars isnt really that difficult.
That last bit is only true for 7 bolts both 1 and 2g. 6 bolt you have to remove the crank sprocket.I would replace the tensioner assembly and the tensioner pulley.
You need to put an allen key wrench into the tensioner to lock it into position. I took off the rocker arm with the tensioner pulley and then removed the belt.
Also replace the balance shaft belt. You will need to slightly rotate the crank to free the belt up to go around the dust shield behind the crank pulley, same for install

Yeah, once tension is off the belt then its loose and slides off.
