I've been putting together a 97 7 bolt and I have a set it king xp bearings and I went with a set of king thrust washers as well but it seems to be to big to fit into the groove or slot that it is supposed to sit. Anybody have any answers on if maybe there's different size thrust washers and I didn't see or if I possibly have a 6 bolt block maybe? This is my first 4g63 build and this is the only thing holding me up all help would be appreciated

Most likely you ordered a wrong main bearing set. I imagine that you have a MB5315XP with TW173. If you have a 7 bolt block and the groove for thrust washer is smaller than the thrust washer, then your block is a non-revised block (pre '97) which requires one-piece main bearing set which is MB5209XP.
