I would like to gain some knowledge on a few of these turbos i'm looking at from people who'e dealt with them first hand, i am wanting information on spool, reliability (most important really IMO) and how well they perform over all

HOnestly I'm looking for something used but am not having any luck (really wanting a used hy 35 or hx 35) but since i finally have the rest of my engine ready to go back together and still need a blower i may have to put something on credit as much as i don't want to do it

I really would like to spend under 600 TOPS but if i have to I will use my bill me later credit line to buy something decent that meets my goals

The first one i'm looking at is the GT3782 for 899.00 from extreme.

My main goal is a solid 500 WHP wih the fastest spool possible, I run e85 so i'm not afraid to run 25-30psi on a daily basis and cuirrently do (well when the car is together anyway LOL )

I haven't found anything else i'm too interested in that's not just a variation of the old garrett style t3/t4 hybrids. I'd be down to put a new wheel in my 57 trim if i have to but i'd rather upgrade since i havne't done anything nice for the car in quite some time. not to mention boost recovery on the 57 is a little too slow for me and aside from using the nitrous to re-spool it i don't like shfting wide open or using the NLTS just because it's hard on driveline parts (or harder than i like to be on them anyway)

So can anyone give me some first hand info on the 3782????

or if anyone reading this has a used holset in good shape (or rebuildable with good wheels) let me know.

thanks

I would call and talk to them about this turbo to find out if it is a real Holset but dsmgraveyard has a rebuilt hx35 with BEP housing for either the t25 style exhaust flange or the T3 style. They also offer the turbo for either Internal or external gate for the t25 mounting style, and just external setup for the t3 flanged one.

here is the link to the holset turbo section on their site.

The hx35 sounds just about perfect for your goals, especially for you, being somebody who has the means to fabricate just about anything you desire. I have luck lurking around cummins forums and their for sale threads. Every now and then, one of those guys will want to step up and ditch their hx35. Have you tried looking there?

What about ordering turbo's from DSMgraveyard? I really want that T3 flanged hx-35 and am willing to spend the cash if it's in good shape. Problem is i haven't had my car on the road in a month now and it's my DD., I have everything to get it back on the road by the weekend if i have a turbo. So looing for a used one on other forums is kinda out. As for our classifieds, i'm using the billmelater on paypal and not sure it works for private sales????

Other than that issue I get spooked by not knowing who i'm dealing with on the classifieds and can't afford to order something that's junk or to get ripped off. The main ones i've seen in our classifieds all are 3 by opne guy and the part about "must go tonight super low price" scares me into thinking it's a scam.

Also, does anyone know how the hx35 fits with the t-netics t3 manifold? (what i'm running) I don't mind denting the water pipe a little or modding it to clear, but i don't want to get rid of the stock main fan as i've dealt wityh cooling issues and recently changed my whole IC pipe setup to put it back on so I can keep my AC

So.. I REALLY want the one from DSMgraveyard in this link

what's everyone's opinion on this> I have a t3 mani with external gate on it already, this would compliment it nicely if i'm not gonna get screwed over by them? What issues are they known for? I hear so many mixed results about the graveyard i'm sorta on the fence baout ordering it tonight so i'll wait to hear what you all say

Like I said, I would seriously look at that HX40 with T3 BEP on the classifieds. It's also on DSMtalk, pretty good deal. You can pay anything with Bill Me Later, it's Paypal dude, they don't care where the money goes be it from an EBay seller or private seller, since paypal accounts are paypal accounts.

I would definetly call them up tomororw and make sure that they have them in stock and READY to ship so you don't end up waiting months for something that should only take a few days to ship.

Cool, thanks for all the info everyone, and i'll talk to the graveyard tomorrow for sure

also thanks for the bill me later info. I worked at paypal a long time ago when it first came out and back then only certain retailers had the option (but this waS in the very very first release month or so)

how about a borg warnder s256 extended tip? spool timing to 30psi in 3rd? ease of fitment on a 2g with the larger of the 2 OEM fans in polace (must have it fior my AC i've had every slim fan there is almost and had cooling issues in a nebraska heat wave when the AC is running so i wanna keep that fan) but i have t3 flanged manifold with external gate so i'm taken care of there

thanks everyone, I'm not too up on the latest turbos and such, the last few years have been a rough couple that have made major changes to my life so i haven't kept up on the latest turbo tech due top other concerns in life taking priority over my "fun"

I've tried everything before, a 160 t-stat, every slim fan i could fit on the radiator, water wetter, 70/30 water/AF mix, but in the end the best answer i've come up with is runnin the larger OEM fan on it's 3rd (highest) speed along with the condensor fan at the same time (both are triggered by an output on the haltech and run together at all times) We run temps in the high 90's and indexing to 105*F + daily for about 2 months a summer, and my A/C is a must. I currently have a t04e compressor housing fit in there but that's about the size limit i'm working with (but the E cover is a good bit larger than the B cover most think of on the t3/t4 hybrids)

If i have to modify or dent the water pipe a little that's no big deal at all. I'll be fabbing up new down pipe "flange/first bend" and intake pipe anyway, so a little water pipe work is no big deal. I would also hope to not have to make any real changes to my charge pipes. Right now i have a 90* elbow welded to my t4-e cover making the outlet look like the factory t25, but with the outlet upwards between the manifold #4 runner and the cooling fan and I could put this same 90 on whatever turbo i go with as long as i can clock the housing

Cool, thanks for all the info everyone, and i'll talk to the graveyard tomorrow for sure
The first thing you need to ask is if they are Cummins Reman units or if they are rebuilding these turbos themselves. If it's the latter, I would definitely steer clear and seek another option.

If you're limited to an "E" cover, you can forget the HX35/40 idea.

Honestly, the best turbo you've mentioned so far given your fitment and HP requirements would be the HY35.

I've heard many great things about you and turbos jus, but if they had the turbos subleted to be balanced, would it still be a bad idea?

Yes....and here's why:

Some things are just better left to experienced professionals. ;)

The BEP T3 housing will not fit with the cast T3 manifold. The exhaust housing hits the block

Well, crap! Now i have a means to buy and can't find what i need LOL sounds like DSMgraveyard is not worth risking the purchase with? I got a PM about one for sale that i wopuld need to modify the cover on but with what justin said about the E cover size limits now i'm worried about the fit. I have heard some people say thjey've kept the stock fans with an hx-35 but now i'm worried

justing, do you have a pic of an hx-35 next to a to4e housing turbo?

thanks again everyone, i'm hoping to get something today i can't afford to waste another day because i just can't do all the work i have lined up working from a motorcycle, next week i have a job that's one day of work for about 600 bucks but i need to be able to take my TIG welder with me and there's no way i'm able to carry an argon bottle on the motorcycle

I know its a tad bit smaller and flows about 2 lbs less but would an h1c work? I don't see 500 out of it but mid-high 400's is possiable is it not? And you would get fast spool...

I know your saying money issues so this could be a quick temporary fix that would get you close to your goals and save some money until you can get the hx35-40 you want then resell to get some of that money back...

Not a lot of info on the h1c on a DSM really but I'm sure Justin could give some advice

Little update for everyone.. bill me later is ONLY available for participating merchants, it cannot be used to buy from a private individual. (i just got off the phone with them) so it looks like i'm back to buying from a merchant/vendor

so now i'm again on the hunt for TRUSTWORTHY vendors who accept bill me later payments :(

No vendor names are to be mentioned in threads with regards to issues. All you need to do is point the person to the Vendor Review section on this site and let them do the research themselves.

Here's the list of vendors and their associating ratings. I'm sure you can also do a google search to figure out other pros/cons with a specific vendor.

snowboarder.. sorry if i broke any rulels (i'm not thinking that i did, nor was it my intention to have a thread bashing particular vendors) This was intended soley for opinions on what turbos i could buy for under 1000 bucks that fit my needs

Now back to turbo talk, I've been PM'ed with a few great offers and sadly since i can't use BML i am stuck only wishing i had some more cash or that my other bills would understand needing to "wait" which i'm sure they won't LOL

I did however call about the holset at the graveyard and they are not built already and that rules them out since they said they don't balance them they just take em apart and put new parts in and re-assemble.

And since i can't pay a private person through BML i'm stuck buying new at this point, and must find some one who accepts that form of payment or wait another 2 weeks to get the money together for a turbo (which after a month already i'm growing too impatient to sit around even longer using only a motorcycle for my vehicular needs)

ONE MORE THING.. I see a lot of holsets that have divided T3 flanges on them but my manifold is not divided, can i just knife esdge the divider with sopme porting tools and still get decent response out of the turbo?

I still am waiting on opinions on the first turbo i asked about LOL

also how about the GT3782? it seems to make the airflow i need I'm just wondering how they spool?

Also, i'd be down to run an H1C for now or may even keep it.. 500 is not a set "must have' just what i'd like. But hell i'm happy with the 438 i've made to date, that's still a lot of power on a DD car

Id offer you my H1C as I dont see you going anywhere but you would have to get a turbine housing for it since it has the 21cm housing on it now and that thing is HUGE and atleast a compressor housing 0-ring... Dont wanna give you something that needs work when you need somethign right away
