My girlfriend's son just got a Neon RST-4 and he doesn't know jack about turbos (and neither do I), does anyone know of some good articles or some basic info as to what to look out for and preventative maintenance for the turbo itself? I've heard you're supposed to let the turbo cool off before you shut it off, is that true? Someone point me to something I can print out for him to read if you know anything! Thanks in advance!

Thanks man, just what I was looking for... Anyone else have something to contribute? I'm just trying to keep him from screwing his car up unecessarily, he is only 16. We all know what it's like to be 16 and reckless/careless. I know if I was 16 and got a SRT-4 and I knew then what I know, that car would last forever, know what I mean?

tell him to RESEARCH before he mods, that is.. if he's allowed to mod.

check out the apexi turbo timer, it's a nice little pensize turbo timer that will let the turbo cool down before the motor shuts off.

and, teach him how to care for this car like any other car. that IS THE KEY to making a performance car last. If he doesn't beat on it too much and keeps up with maintenance, the car will hold up :thumb:

First of all, get im on the srt forums. Second of all, get him to the track BEFORE he starts modding his car. I wish my parents had done that instead of me testing out parts I had just put on, on the street. As an extra incentive, add that you will pay for some (or all) track fees for as long as he does not get a speeding or racing ticket. That will give him an extra incentive not to play around on the street. Also if he is caught with a ticket, take away all modding priviliges and dont let him drive for a month. I promise you if you stick with keeping it away from him for that full month he will have learned his lesson. All my friends that lost their licenses for over a month now are scared as shit to do anything on the street. That is how I am going to teach my son or daughter when they get their licenses.

Thanks guys for the advice, I just hope he can keep the thing on the road, his mom and I didn't want him to have that much power in a car (he's only been driving for 5 months), and we think we'll wreck it, but his Grandfather got it for him. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed
