I'm about to do my timing belt maintenance etc and was thinking of doing the 2g head/ evo 3 intake manifold setup on my 6 bolt block and wanted some insight or personal experience thoughts on this setup.

well if you do the evo 3 intake mani id def grind out the tb inlet so it matches the 1g tb and buy a 1g tb 60mm youll def feel a difference (alot in mid range)

Thanks for the info,do you happen to know were I can locate an evo 3 intake manifold with throttle body, coilpack,PT at?

If you wanted to actually do this setup your going to need a 1g TB and of course an evo 3 IM but good luck getting one with out paying an arm and a leg. Then your going to have to port the inlet of the IM so it lines up. Then after that your going to have to drill out the head stud holes and it would be wise to do bothoil port mods to the head. I believe that is the basic go down.

the evo 3 intake mani bolts right up what do you mean hes gunna have to drill out the head stud head? makes no sense! :notgood: and on the classifields the intake is going for 150 shipped so if $150 is an arm and a leg then i spent an arm on my evo 3 intake cause i only paid $100 shipped and def go with the 91 turbo tb. just remember to get the 1g tb gaskets.:thumb:
theres also a sensor(forgot what its called sorry) on the top of your 2g inatke mani that the evo 3 mani doesnt use so unless you can deal with the check engine light (doesnt effect driving the car) you'll have to get dsmlink or something to turn that sensor off. but leave the sensor plugged in just fyi.

Its the MDP sensor

to the op ive never run this setup but i have heard its dope

I dont have any specific numbers yet but I am currently running a 6-bolt block with 2G head, evo 3 intake mani with the 1G 60mm TB..I am more than pleased as of now, just the response difference coming from a stock 2g mani/TB set-up.

IIRC the Evo manifold is already 60mm. The RVR manifold is the one that needs ported out to match. It's the same thing as the Evo manifold minus the oem 60mm inlet and it's short one nipple.

Yes, to use the 2g head the head stud holes need bored out. 6bolt head studs are 12mm where as the 2g uses 11mm studs. You also want to drill out the bottom left hole (#4 cylinder towards the exhaust manifold) a little larger up to the oil port to allow for proper pressure to the head.

It doe not have provisions for the MPD sensor nor the EGR valve either so you might as well delete your emissions setup if you plan on running it.

I'm currently using a ported RVR IM with a Holset HX40 and IMO it's doing good. I don't have any proper air flow numbers yet as I'm still tuning but I can get them up here when I'm done. As stated, velocity>flow. Only until you get I to the higher numbers will it start to be a restriction but by that time you would most likely want a different setup.

Check eBay, mitsumarketplace, the classifieds, craigslist, etc. You'll come across one eventually.

You're correct. I'm not positive about the nipples though as I've seen a few different ones go through my hands with 2-3 nipple configurations.

That site is not any more. The classifieds are integrated into Mitsu-Media.com now.

RVR intakes can be had reasonably.I recently got one from a friend of mine who purchased a "JDM" engine for his wifes 2g, I traded him a bare 1g head for the head and intake mani, I will be running it on my 93 with a 6bolt.

About 30mins of porting you have a nice intake that is visually appealing unlike the hideous 1g and 2g manis.

This thread is what convinced me. While on this subject i need a coil bracket

Ill be running this combo on my 91 6 bolt this spring. Im pretty excited to see how well it works with my 16g. Im running a n/t tv and ported out the rvr intake to match it.
P.S. I got my rvr intake with the coil pack and the support bracket all for....wait for it...........free:)

I have a 2g head/evo3 intake mani/1g n.t throttle body. With an 8 blade hx35 the car made 527 and pulled all the way to 9k rpms. Im sure a SMIM and 70mm throttle body is better but if youre on a budget this will get the job done.
