I was interested in using a 2G head & Evo 3 Intake manifold combo and wanted to know what people think about this setup, pros and cons

The Evo 3 intake/2g head is a great street combo. The smaller ports of the 2g head keep the velocity up, aiding lower end torque, yet still flow enough to be wound tight. The Evo3 intake has a bigger plenum and shorter runners than a 2g intake. This will allow it to make power higher up in the rpm band. It's a nice comprimise between the 6500rpm cuttoff of a stocker and the lack of low end a SMIM would typically have.

But keep in mind that the cam and turbo selection are generally going to have a greater effect on powerband than the intake selection.

I hear that the 2g head flows more than the 1g head, not sure about the evo3 intake manifold though.

It's not so much that it flows better. Its that the ports are better designed for a street car, meaning wider powerband. They are smaller which helps velocity and improves VE.

I wanted to go this route as well but with ny state inspecton car will not pass due to egr removal ... I have seen pics of a similar intake manifold that has mpd sensor and similar egr flange as our 2g manifold have but I can not figure out what vehicle they come on....maybe someone can chime in on that ?

Its not so much the smaller ports its the angle of the port to the valve.

I run this combo on my 93 gsx with gsc s2 cams and a 20g with only positive result no dyno charts just driving.

The intake I believe your thinking of is a Hyundai intake. I've gotten ahold of one for my 91, talon it looks like a 1g intake with 2g ports.

I know there are hyundais that came with the 4g63 and have intakes that look like 1g I'm trying to figure out which ones look like the EVO 3 intakes there is a pic of one on tuners but can't find it any longer. It has a mpd sensor port but still has the same coil pack mounting and what not.

I doubt it's an evolution intake unless its been modified, my evolution intake has none of that.

The evo 3 plenum is actually smaller than a 2g and 1g. It does have shorter runners than both 2g and 1g. As far as power cut off goes. Sounds like more of a stock cam and turbo issue. Not so much intake manifold, at least on a 1g. The 2g itm is considerable more restricted than the 1g.

The intake you are refering to is an evo intake manifold. There was an evo intake disscussion over on the link forums quite some time ago. Pics where posted and some of the link members from other countries had posted pics of these intakes. I'll try to find the thread to find the exact wording, but its not an egr thats on that intake. It was intended for rally racing and is some sort of anti lag setup.

Heres the link to the disscussion. First post has the intake with the threaded port where the egr goes. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/bolt-tech/245603-lancer-evolution-iii-intake-manifold.html
