So, I've been working on a GST to GSX swap for a while now. It's slow going b/c I don't have much time with work, but I'm getting there. Anyway, my car is a 99 and my donor car parts came from a 97. My 99 GST gas tank has all kinds of evap canisters, tubing, vents, valves, and garbage attached to it. The 97 AWD tank virtually has nothing by way of evap. My question is can I take the vapor hose line coming off the rollover sensor on the AWD tank and connect to the EVAP hardline (the one that travels with the brake lines) on the GST and call it a day? I'm pretty certain the answer is YES, just wanted to check in with some people that have actually done this.

Apparently the GST to GSX swap is not as prolific as I thought ... LOL.

Sorry, didn't see this before but I have done exactly what you are describing. You can do that but it will no longer be "legal" as far as the emmisions are concerned. The main difference between the GST and earlier AWD tanks that you are seeing all these extra hoses on the GST tank is that the Charcoal Canister for the evap is incorporated into the gas tank. On the earlier AWD the Charcoal Canister was not part of the tank but rather mounted in the engine bay directly under the battery.

So if you just hook up the line to your hardline without finding and installing the charcoal canister under the hood then like I said it technically is no longer legal for emissions. But it would take someone who knows what they are looking for to notice it.

Also keep in mind you will have a check engine light for the evap solenoid which was on the GST tank that is not on the AWD tank. You would have to disable this using Link. If you don't have Link the janky way of doing it is to wire up the evap solenoid to trick the ECU without it actually being plumbed into the evap system.

Get rid of all that sh**!
You know what's crazy? The 96-97 TALONS are federally exempt from emissions (still get a sticker with a pass override) but eclipses are not! Kinda tells you who was in bed with the EPA

I guess you're not making it to cars and coffee this sun?

Well you guys are lucky out there in Pennsylvania you can disable as many of the emissions systems as you want and no one cares. Here in California its as screwed up as it gets. They catch wind you dont have a charcoal canister and you would think its like they caught you murdering baby seals or something.

Yeah I've read about your struggles for years now. I'd have to move to NV. CA is going to dissolve into the ocean soon anyway isn't it? Lol

Thank you very much for the reply. That's the info I was looking for. I did a ton of research for a few years on GST/GSX swap and I missed the info on the evap. I didn't realize the GSX charcoal canister was in the engine bay. I had a donor, but it's at the junkyard now - oh well. As long I as I can hook that line up there without too much trouble.

My car is driven under 5K every year for the last 15 years, so it's been emission exempt for a looooong time. So, in the end, it won't matter anyway. As for the CEL, my car has had a CEL since I deleted the cat 15 years ago too, so that'a also not a concern. I plan to jump over to Link from the SAFC after the swap is done, so I should be able to turn those off from what I've read.

I don't go to Cars & Coffee too often. A few times a year, but that's it. It's jammed packed and crazy I don't find it fun anymore. If I do go I usually show up in my Starion. I wasn't there today, but I did have the Starion out since it was so beautiful today (finally!!)
