I have a 95 Mazda Millenia with about 106k. I am thinking about trading it for a 95 Eclipse GS-T. I had a 2000 Eclipse GT before my Mazda which is what I traded it for (170k, needed work).
GS-T
114k
5 speed
sunroof
custom light green paint
refinished chrome OEM 16s with red Mitsu center caps
Cat-back exhaust (looks like a GReddy Ti-C)
97-99 front conversion
pretty sure the cold-air intake is Injen
lowering springs
black projector halo headlights
tinted tail lights and side markers
carbon fiber hood OEM style painted body color
new larger intercooler
front and rear sway bars
no rust or major body damage, front bumper lip has a crack in it

I was told it has a new transmission, rebuilt engine, new turbo, new clutch. Just needs alignment and new tires. Engine bay is beautiful for a 95 as is the exterior. The interior needs work; seat tears, receding headliner, dirty worn out carpet, things like that. Lowered suspension rattles, not sure what causes this. Car sounds amazing and has a clean title. No dash warning lights. I'm kind of on the fence with this, my last Eclipse was a money pit and my Millenia is in excellent condition and needs no work, and has been well maintained.

The seller didn't seem to know much about his car he bought for his son, said he bought it, put a new tranny and clutch in it, and never registered it. Been sitting in the garage since July. He offered to have it inspected, new tires mounted, and get the front end aligned. I'm trying to acquire paperwork on repairs/maintenance.

Found it odd 2 new matching boost and oil pressure gauges were installed in front of shifter to override stock gauges on dash. Speedometer light is burned out. The car has a pioneer deck, nothing too special for speakers. I was told air bag was replaced and the cover for it is pulled forward on the left side.

Just trying to get some advice. I'm going to look at the car again Monday. Does this sound like a good deal? What signs should I check for? How do I tell if it has the 4g63t or if it's a 420a with turbo? Also help with determining what brand and model the modified parts are. I can submit pictures.

Any help would be appreciated.

in the last picture. the way to tell is that the motor is facing the opposite. side. the intake is also facing on the passenger side of the car. from what i see there are some mods, but look very light mods. possible good find. Pretty clean 2g good find if it all works out. how much are they asking.

So it is a 4g63 motor? And they want to trade it for my 95 Millenia, worth around 2200 KBB.

95 mille$&@$??? What is that? Take the gs-t now! There is so much you can do with it and yes its a 4g63 motor. Great find!

Carpet is $100 off ebay.

Pop the hood, take interior shots, and ask for receipts! If you physically go look at the car do a compression check, pull the dip stick and check the oil, pop the coolant cap and look for spots of oil in the coolant, check the CV boots on the axles... I say the above because you can piece together a history of the car and what its been through. For example, if you see that half of the coolant system has been replaced (hoses, radiator, fans, etc) you can tell they were having a overheating issue which could mean a potentially blown headgasket as soon as you turn up the boost a bit. When you pull the plugs to do the compression check look at the condition of the spark plug itself, you can see if they were running the engine lean if the tips are white or white with black spots (detonating).

:dsm:

The actual labor to replace them isnt hard, Finding some peices will probably be difficult, look for part outs and check the classifieds

Looks like a good buy. Not that many miles for its year. And anyways it has different rebuilds. Definately take it if you want :thumb: about the interior. Its not hard to replace. Just gotta find the material. But after your done replacing it, you'll be happy :D

What do you mean different rebuilds? Anyone know if the 2g eclipses are more reliable/better built than the 3g's?

Great find!
I would inspected it good and get as many info as possible and take it for a testdrive,
See if it suits you and everything sounds ok and responds ok.
If so, i'll say go buy that one!

just like any other car maintence first and formost both mods or you will have problems but i would trade if everything is legit

Its pretty easy to tell the difference between a 420a and 4g63t. For on you can look at the long donkey dong intake on the right hand side of the 420a. the 4g63t's cam gears are also on the opposite side.

haha this guy is going to take your millenia for his eclipse. wow well ya make the deal before he changes his mind, you (the OP) texted me trying to trade for my 95 black gst, if hes willing to make the deal the go for it. this has been on craigslist for at least 8 months now maybe more. make sure it will pass inspection, look for rust in the shock towers and the rear hatch, make sure theres no ticking in that motor. It is a 4g63. and yes the 2gs are better then the 3gs. Id do some reading on this site. If you not mechanically incline then keep your millenia because eclipse/talons/lazers need consistant attention. Its a true comitment to own one of these cars so know what your getting into and start reading this forum day and night. oh and these cars can be a lot of fun:thumb:

Lol that's funny. But yeah, no rust, the motor sounds excellent. It was just in for inspection yesterday. I test drove it and aside from the alignment and the bald tires it drives very nice. It had been sitting since July and ran amazing, it was warming up before I got there.

look at the turbo not a t25 otherwise a 16g or 14b
So you're saying it's not the stock Garrett turbo? I know it has a larger, upgraded intercooler, don't know the brand.

"it was warming up before I got there"

so your saying the car was warm or at least had temperature on the gague when you fired it up? just telling you that when i have someone come and look at my gst i fire it up to give it some temperature as well because for some reason or another when its cold out, my gst runs like crap untill its warm. so thus i warm it up before a potential buyer shows up. so go look at it again and request that the buyer leaves it stone cold. just so you can see the characteristics of the car when shes cold. not saying its going to be perfect but there may be misfires, tranny grinds, or sever bogging fromt the turbo which could disappear when shes warm. those things could show the need for new plugs, a tranny thats warn and going soon, exc..... just trying to give you an idea of whats in your " to fix" later on in the future
