Well i have been doing alot of thinking lately and i want to get a 2g gsx. Probably in july when i get back from Iraq. i should have around 15-20 grand saved up so i plan on selling my car for around 10-14. My question is should i get a bone stock one or get one that is modded. If i could find one that is modded just alittle that would be awesome because i plan on painting it blue and maybe putting in a 6 bolt. I love the 2g model thats why i dont go with a 1g. What you guys think?

All three of the DSMs I own are AWD turbo and I don't regret any of them. Otherwise, an EVO is a good idea too.

I like wrenching on my own stuff, so if I were in your shoes, I'd start looking for a shell (especially if you're going to do a six-bolt swap) so you can have a blank canvas to start with.

Id say your best buying a 2g with a 6 bolt already in it. Theres lots of people selling GSXs that arent modded like crazy, but they have 6 bolts. Not to say that a 7 bolt is death AT ALL. But if your looking to build something then go with something with a 6 bolt. Just do your research on these cars. Might take a little but dont settle for something that isnt what you want. Make sure everything checks out with the car your gunna buy. Compression test it, check the oil...ect, all that stuff to make sure your not getting someones old beater.

I have bought a stock 2g and a modded up 2g. By far I would recommend closer to stock the better. I used to hear that and just forget it because you save money by gettin a pre-modded up one. SUCH a BAD idea! I would never do it again! EVER!

The words here are "preventitive maintance". There isnt a best year of 2gs. If I were in your shoes I would find a gsx with no mods and no signs of moding. Moding = trouble. The problem starts when kids mod there cars and dont check the oil or something. Also mods mean the owner has ragged on it so you really dont know what your buying. Just my opinion.

Well not to say that everyone with a modded car beats on it. Lets not get that started. I am leaning towards getting one with a 6 bolt already in it and do the complete check on it. compression and everything. I wont get one that it is clear that the owner modded the shit out of it. Then that would leave no need for me to buy the car, Thats one of the reasons why i want a gsx, get more power, plus it will be better in Wisconsin, and i'm tired of the convertable. I wont the sun roof hard top.

Obviously, I live in WI. I could sell you one of my 2Gs. PM me if your interested.

if i was you i get a stock car so you can do the mods yourself and you no what you have

Exactly, I think i found a nice 97 with 152.700 on it. Body is in pefect condition. Perfect choice for doing a 6 bolt swap. When doing a paint job, They sand all the old paint off first right and not just lay another layer of paint on?

You can get that and then buy a rebuilt 6bolt engine from Jasper or someone reliable and then you can have a nice car to start modding.

I would check out the tranny and drivetrain. If it was a car that was beaten on you may have some drivetrain issues down the road. Just check everything over and be thorough. I know some people get all excited when they go to look at a new car.

Get one that is as close to stock as possible and with the least amount of miles.. Id really have to say that a majority of GSXs ive come across for a sale and checked out before i bought mine either abused to death, or just not properly taken care of at all.. Its a pain in the ass, and a huge headache to have to find out whats been neglected, and not properly replaced on someone elses experiment, ESPECIALLY when its a 6bolt swapped 2g. If its modified its probably seen its share of high RPM launches which could mean tranny problems. If you want the 2g.. then find a 98 or 99 close to stock with the least amount of miles.

Its very hard to find a nice 2g gsx with low miles, With the 97 i know it has alot of miles on it but i would be putting almost everything new in when it comes to engine, and clutch.
All the 98-99's that i find go for about 10k. So its hard to find one.

Get a clean 2g gsx, drop a 6olt 2.3l stroker with a big turbo and upgrade suspension and everything else you want, you wont spend over 12k-15k if you do it the right way

I would try to get the work done myself. You never know want the pervious owner has done or how hard they drove that car. IE I bolt a nissan setra w/ an sr20det bluebird swap and I thought it was a great deal until everything started to break ie bolts, tranny etc..

Yeah i plan on doing most of the work myself. Except for the engine swap.
Im having trouble picking what type of engine to put it. The car will for sure be a daily driver, thats why im thinking 6 bolt 2.0 lt.
i plan on buying a brand new engine. Ill sell my gst so ill take the money from that.

Ive been thinking about what kind of tuning device to use. Im leaning towards the eprom ecu and dsm link, Ive heard nothing but good things about that. Any advice guys?

:nono: :nono: Not entirely true, most would argue that the 95 would be the best year if any becuase of eprom. Or maybe the 99 because of 3rd gen lifters(Not as important). There are plenty of little things mechanicly speaking that changed through out the years.

I have a red 98 Gsx for 10,000, with 77000 miles. Was stock when I bought it last summer. Im 49 and havent ran it hard a lot. Look at profile for mods. I want to go back to a v-8. I love the looks of this car but my old sytle says go back. 319 364 3895 Vic
