thinking about getting a 2G GST and selling my 98 A4 2.8. the 2g is black, standard tranny, leather, sunroof, 89k miles, new tires waterpump timing belt and tensioner and clutch. Only mod's are intake with larger intake tubing, cross drilled rotors. Only problems with car is, radio volume sticks (it is stock), electric door locks don't work, small hole in driver seat, and driver rear wheel bearings are just starting to go. The rest of the car is mechanically sound. Hes asking 6500...
Whats the deal with all this crankwalk stuff? is it in all 7 bolts or just when you start to play around with the engine and add mods and w/e? all i really want to do to it is vent the BOV, get a boost controller, and get some gauges, thats about it engine wise. How much is the wheel bearings and locks going to be to fix (estimated)? do you guys think its worth it? let me know pleaseeeee

if anybody wants to try to easily explain to me how to vent the stock bov to atmosphere....id appreciate it as well.
i know somewhat about MAF sensors, not about translators. How do they work and what do you have to do to install them? How much are they and is there any other way around it?
From what ive read so far, if you vent the stock bov without the maf/maft, it runs rich, etc, what else can you get besides the maf to correct this?

most important of all tho is if selling my A4 for this GST is worth it? is the gst doing to be reliable enough to be a daily driver and what not? input greatly appreciated!
thanks

#1: dont worry about crankwalk till it happens, which is still just a maybe. it happens or it doesnt.

#2: dont pay that much for that car. offer 5500 or if you can get away with it 5000.
for dead door locks, a busted radio and new wheel bearings you shouldnt have to pay for those repairs.

#3: dont vent you BOV until you get a MAFT, or a Stand alone.

FULLY Agree with the above.

As far as crankwalk... don't let this term scare the hell out of you and make you worried about buying a dsm. If you know the cars sound after a testdrive if you can getting the problems you know about fixed and maybe a few mods then go for it! Don't be "skurred".
OMG

Anyways, don't forget a compression test when your looking it over!
Make sure none of the gears grind!
Check for turbo shaftplay also!

he say that he dont want to go under 6500 unless its cash, but if its cash i dont know how low hell go. the things almost mint........ all mainenance was done by a garage except the installation of a strut tower bar, most of the miles are highway, never beat on, etc etc. any new suggestions or should i stick with the old ones.......? what should i do?
thanks

I agree with these guys but at the same time do be cautious, Its rare, BUT it does happen. I bought my 95 GSX Jan 2005(112k miles, paid 5k), Crankwalked June 1st 2005, Bought a new engine from Overbore.com August 2005, Crankwalked 200 miles later LOL. Overbore.com is fully covering it and warrantying the engine, but its still a PITA.

Ok, first off this isn't meant to be rude but when you post information about a car...
POST THE WHOLE DAMN STORY ABOUT THE CAR, AS IN EVERYTHING YOU KNOW ABOUT IT. We would better help you and give you information knowing as much as you do in any situation.

As far as the car get a quote on how much it would cost to fix the problems that it currently has and plop 5,700 cash in front of him and see if money talks. If he hesitates then show him the price it's going to cost to fix that freaking problem with the wheel bearings and then I'm sure he will soften up and snatch up the cash.

Goodluck!
Thank you
John

in regards to 98RedGs, ill post all the emails he has sent me...

Has 2.0 Four Turbo, Only mod's are intake with larger intake tubing, cross drilled rotors. I did not do many mod's because it will reduce engine reliability. Car has not been in a accident. Only problems with car is, radio volume sticks (it is stock), electric door locks don't work, and driver rear wheel bearings are just starting to go. The rest of the car is mechanically sound. Oil changes have been done by me every 2,500 to 3,00 miles. The car was never driven in any snow storm (I plow in winter). The timing belt was not changed to long ago along with belt tensioner. Also, the clutch has been replaced and new tires not to long ago, about 4,00 miles ago. I have all receipts for the work done. The car is awesome shape and cannot get any better.

Thanks,
Rob

I am selling car as is. Lowest I will possibly go is 6500.

Rob

If you would like to see the car, which is probably the best thing, I can meet you somewhere and you can see it and drive it.

Thanks,
rob

shaun, I would say its about 40 to 45 minutes from Hartford. The driver rear wheel bearings are not bad yet, they just make little noise. I may replace them myself if I find time. Other things about car, has 6 disc CD changer in rear, along with amp and box. Has support strut in motor compartment to connect two front strut towers. Leather interior is in aweseome shape except for one little hole on driver seat. It has Pirelli P-zero Nero ZR tires that have little mileage on them.
The car is awesome shape and I really love it. It is very fast and can be made to go faster. I am selling it because I got married and the car is to small for a family. I used the car primarily to drive to college. It is great on gas, which I loved most about the car. I don't know what you mean by 7 bolt motor. I can say it is 2.0 turbo 4 cylinder. I always took very good care of the car. I really wanted to keep the car for the summer, but I have no space for storage and family in all. But the best way to describe the car is to come down yourself and look at it.

Rob

Shaun,
I will see if I can get them fixed. The car only has stock radio, I never put after market in. Also, seat hole is very small like pen size maybe. Let me know about this weekend. I may go camping and probably available Saturday morning or Sunday late afternoon.

thanks,
rob

i called him today and he said he is probably going to get the bearings replaced next weekend. he said that all maintenance was done by professional mechanics with the exception of the strut tower bar. also according to him, the turbo has not been played with, the bov was replaced with a 1g bov, he owns a landscaping company and mainly drove the car in the summer and w/e and didnt beat on it and most of the miles are highway. cars condion is practically mint...

what else?
:dsm:

ok, well wat if he says som1 will give him like 6 or 6500 for it? then wat? ill give u 5500 cash? what?

yes walk that is not the only gst state side

if u want a bov just get a gm maf u can find them cheap on ebay

its a 95, but its like mint...... and it hasnt been modded. im trying to set up a test drive and see it and everything. is 6000 really that much for a near mint 2G GST?

ok, thanks a bunch. what can/should i tell him about it.... ive gotten:
my dads friend works at a dealership or something and he says its not worth more than 5
or
blue book value doesnt match

nethign else? what do you all think?
:dsm:

I bought mine for 5000, 95 GSX, which is worth more and was mint when i bought it , few minor blemishes and a tear in the drivers seat but nothing major. OFC is crank walked on me 6 months later but that was unknowable. Anything much over 5k is getting steep unless its heavily modded or has VERY low miles on it. You should be able to get him for ~5k easy, if not hes asking to much, just keep looking, its hard to wait but youll regret it if you jump on the first one you find

Personally if he fixes the problem and the car does in fact look mint I'd pay 5,500 and no more... well, possibly 5,750 but I would walk after that cause it's not worth it. Explain to him that you understand it's in mind condition but he needs to keep in mind the car is a 1995 and is 10 years old now even if it's a clean car it's still old.

5,500 is your first offer personally.
5,750 is your final offer.

Tell him I'm sorry I can't purchase the car for anything more than that and if he changes his mind to give you a call, he should be calling about a week or two later so keep your options open.
:)

Thank you
John

This guy is not only full of shit but he is an uneducated dsm owner... GOOD on gas?? These cars burn through gas like nothing... WhaTS a 7bolt motor? Listen he is:

Over pricing a car beaten on by someone who knows nothing about them.

Your best bet for buying a dope gst/gsx is right above you bro.. Check out the classifieds.
