as for the fraud, lying, ect... all a statistic is is a collected output on one item without looking at the variables. Satistic; crime has gone down 2% this past year... Was it? or was there just less reported crime? Statistic; by canada having such strict gun laws we have less gun crime! Totally wrong, in fact since most handguns are either banned or restricted we have more gun crime because with guns banned anyone caught with a gun turns into a statistic. Statistic; anyone who modifies their car for more hoesepower is obviously doing something illegal even if something as little as street racing or bigger to selling drugs and knocking off semis to pay for the modification to their automobile.
ALL OF THESE ARE REAL STATISTICS SAID.
They only benefit and take into account what they sayer wants it to.
Look into religion, how many religious offshoots are there (totally disregarding if any one is correct) just the part that they all show their own statistics to point out their own message. We all here hold a statistic that we need more race tracks to race on, but that get's overlooked by all the drunk driving statistics. A man walks out of a bar after picking up his sister who is smashed (him only there to taxi her home drinking nothing at all) the sister pukes out the side window and grabs the steering wheel for grip causing the brother to swerve. he gets a ticket for dui even tho he isnt drunk. bam he turns into a statistic even tho no one is hurt. Statistics and people lie all the time to prove their point.

Those of you making the argument that the drivers in the videos are idiots and can't drive need to realize one thing. Most drivers are idiots. The fact that you can drive and know how to handle your car doesn't mean the other people on the road with you can say the same. Say for instance someone walks out in front of you at an intersection. You being the great and talented driver that you are swerve into oncoming traffic and avoid hitting the person. Now lets pretend another car is coming directly at you as you avoid this person. What will the driver of that car do? Will he jerk left or right possibly hitting the person you just narrowly avoided or hit another vehicle? Will he jam on his brakes and possibly get rear ended or just smash into you? The point is you don't have any idea what someone else will do in these situations.
In my younger days I have passed other drivers at well over 100mph and watched them jam on the brakes and yank onto the shoulder. I've had people I've raced almost smash other cars trying to beat me. I almost took out a Honda I was racing once when I hit a patch of gravel on the shoulder and the rear end slid out at 90mph . I've been pulled over, thrown in jail, been chased and threatened by pissed off drivers, and lost my license more times than I can even remember. I managed to get out of it without hurting anybody or myself but others I know haven't been so lucky. I lost both my brothers in the same accident when my older brother tried taking a bend to fast in his Porsche. It really made me change my ways and see things differently. Having kids really changes the way you see things too. I can't expect people without children to understand this part but trust me it does. I never thought the kids would affect me this way but the first 40 seconds of that video nearly brought tears to my eyes. I don't even want to think about it being my son or my daughter and she's not even born yet. You younger drivers need to heed the warnings some of the other guys here are trying to give you. We're not trying to scare you but instead simply trying to show you what can and does happen everyday. People are unpredictable when they are behind the wheel and you never know what can or will happen.

This is a statistic and how you manipulate it:

There were 15,000 accidents in Some Place, Some Where, USA last year. 4,800 of them were investigated and had to do with speeding.

This is how you manipulate it to look like more. 10,200 of them were reported as having to do with speeding and alcohol.

It makes it seem like there are more speeding related accidents. Because it wasn't properly broken down.

You also can't get a DUI unless you fail a sobriety test. You are arguing that corruption and lying is statistic manipulation when it's not.

This shows that people need to draw a line between having a lil fun and being stupid. I had ONE close count, that was all i needed, after that i have never sped in city limits, i never "street race", i actually get offended if im called a "street racer". The only time i play around is when im out on the backroads, the real backroads, none of this stoplight to stoplight BS, if your racing in "mexico" take it far far away to where there isnt anything that can cause something to go bad, and even then be careful. If you cant see the message in the video then get yourself checked, the footage is fake, but is a real good re-enactment of what can and WILL happen. Its funny, we always learn the hard way, sometimes its something small, like a ticket, but sometimes its big, like running over some kid, like in the video.

Can't get a dui unless you fail a sobriety test? that's hilarious. the court of law will laugh at you because even though the alcohol may be out of your blood and system you are still drunk and can pass a sobriety test. it all depends on a persons size and tolerance. Can you say your A, B, C's backwards skipping the vowels while doing jumping jacks and walking a straight line backwards when your sober? i want unedited video proof. oh wait... how can i tell if it is unedited? i guess i have to go by a cops word don't i?

a cop would much rather pull someone who is drunk over than a speeder. let's say 100 people got pulled over for speeding. let's say 10 of those were drunk. the speeding doesn't even chart. they were drunk driving and recluse driving. not speeding. let's say 2 of those people had a shot before driving. clearly not drunk, but still have alcohol in their blood to fail the suck test, so they get labeled as drunk driving. statistics are lies. believe it or not, it's the way of the world.

Funny fact, well at least in ohio, the only dui tests that hold up in court are pen test, and breathalyzer (maybe some other blood tests obviously) but the abc's and line and etc arnt admissible, least in my state.

Another funny story, well not funny, but what i call BS. Had a buddy driving his intoxicated wife home from a party, hit a patch of ice and hit a pole over the winter. ( i told him he should of been driving his awd stealth but oh well) anyways, he is trying to get his car unstuck, so he has his wife in the driver seat turning the wheel this way and that while he pushes and etc. Long story short, the cops show up, and because she is just sitting there in the driving seat she gets a DUI. Granted arguments can be made that they had to because of etc, but the bottom line is i am sure that's another dui statistic when alcohol didn't play a role in it. another example to show how you cant really trust statistics.

all a statistic is is a sum of what the presenter wants to show out.

Let's get off of cops for creating false statistics...
Look at something as simple as unemployment rate per capita (state/province)
How many people are unemployment and get gst cheques? how many people have ran out of thier gst funds that are no longer a statistic? how many people graduated secondary or university and now have no job? they are not on unemployment so they don't count to your unemployment rate.

Statistics are about as accurate as saying to counties (county, not country) have a lot of speeders. one county has more then the next. is this statistic true? no because they never look at the variables. these twin counties have the same number just depends where said person was caught. Let's say county A sees speeders but they go to county B. turning that towards county B's statistic. There are too many variables that don't add up into the collection of statistics. the only reason they exist is to show the information that the presenter of statistics wants to show.

Look at drug use. Back in the 60's-70's-80's there were statistics that if you ban drugs drug crimes would go down. Have they? No! Look at the overflowing jails and prisons we have. That same statistic still exists today and look at where we are. More and more people being prosecuted over a marijuana seed brought back from a hiking trip in the woods because the government has "No Tolerance". Now they have a drug charge when never doing said drug but the seed or leaf or whatever fell off and into their car. their car, their drugs.

Sure someone could fight the charge. But how many people do? is there any real use to fighting any charge? all you will do is add more court fees that you owe and more money or days spent in jail. the system of things is broken. statistics are fraud. You can fight this but it is ultimately no use. the cop is always right and you are just less than a peasant.

Wake up! You can't 'do your own thing' on a public thoroughfare. You have a resposibility to your surrounding fellowperson who may interact with you based on their natural choices.

For the recent arguements. OK. . . you don't believe statistics. Yea. fine. Statistics were only put out there to get a point across, just like the fake video. . . But reality is momentum change, reaction time, and human error. You can prove reality to be fake just as well actually, if you want to get into the 'philosophy of physics', but it still hurts.

do you believe the theme of the video? Who here thinks driving while texting or looking at the news paper or typing on a laptop or not paying attention to your surrondings or speeding (not going with the flow of traffic; that's a separate issue) or streetracing someone even to the said limit doesn't put you at fault unless some ill-minded sap just has a habit of cartwheeling into oncoming traffic?

Wow, what a great read. I just spent about an hour reading through all of the post here, and it's been quite entertaining. Spawnedx, thanks very much for posting this video. This video is intended for a specific audience, and it's impact will be tremendous. I WILL show this to my teenage daughter, because if one image burns itself into her brain and prevents a stupid decision, then it's done its purpose.

Everyone who has stated that "speed kills" is exactly on target, and all arguments to the contrary are just that: arguments. I personally don't even buy the "speeding 'cause everyone else is doing it" argument. Ever hear of a Lemming?

From what I can tell and see, this thread's arguments boil down to one thing. PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. It's a free country, and you can "do" what you want to. However, it's all about knowing the consequences of your actions, not just for you, but for everyone that you will invole with your actions.

You can be over the "limit" chemically, but pass multiple sobriety tests on video at a station, and you are still getting a DUI. It's pretty sad, but that's how it works. They don't care if you have a tolerance, and to them a tolerance is an alcoholic and someone to sap money off of. There are bigger things to worry about than driving and what can happen. If it was that big of a problem the president would get on TV and go off about it. Drugs is a bigger problem that contributes to crime (crime happens because they're illegal. if they weren't there would be no black market for it), and you don't hear any state of the union addresses about that. Once I hear that something like this is a threat to civilization as we know it I will care. Better a thousand innocent men pay the price than one guilty man walk free is what I gather from these foundations or organizations. At least really the ones that get into political crap and ones that harm people like PETA. Free will is a basic human right. Not written anywhere in the world, but understood mutually among everyone for the most part. The world is losing it, and I don't give a shit if it results in saving a few lives. Freedom is life. Someone drives like an asshole and kills your family member, that is their freedom. You also have the freedom to murder them! Both have consequences.

You guys are ignorant, a breathalyzer is a form of sobriety testing. So unless you refused or fail it at the station, you aren't getting a DUI. They have to prove your drunk, not you prove you aren't. In America it's innocent until proven guilty. Really you all are internet experts, telling someone whose brother, uncle, grandfather and best friend is a state trooper, what holds up in a DUI.
