That was a typo by me, edited, meant to put "statistics" not "facts" there.

No one forced anyone to open this thread. That choice was there's and there's alone. No force feeding happened. They also did not have to reply, by doing so you open yourself to the comments.

While true, most of the comments directed toward some has come across as the "speeders = evil", not to mention it also makes us who do occasionally speed feel like evil nazis because of a video that over exaggerates things. Yes I know things like this do happen. But the video makes it seem like every time you go above 55 in a 55 zone you are murdering babies... granted everytime you go in the middle of two lanes like that one dumb ass did you are probably going to get in a wreck.

I'm not attacking anyone's age, 16-25 is an age group in insurance and driving safety. It also is one of the highest fatality rates in accidents, and almost half of them involve speed. Those are facts. That is where the age 25 comes from. In fact I don't know how old either of you are.

I must have mis-interpreted that then. But I don't see how you could reasonably raise the driving age to 25 without some type of mass public transportation increase or a horrid economic downturn. I neither would be popular in the eyes of me or the public . However with the above stated advanced driving test, i bet you would see a huge decline in the numbers,m specifically for this age group.

Shock (i.e. "BAM in your face") video works great for the entertainment industry...in fact, young people thrive on it.

Nothing wrong with the Shock (i.e. "BAM in your face"), but i do so something wrong with the "BAM in your face if you speed you are evil and murder people, and if you disagree you are immature and stupid!

Maybe you can, maybe you can't, but none of has the resources to oppose the NHTSA. It's not some fly-by-night organization, it's our government, the portion responsible for our safety on the roads.

That video never shows you a numerical number of speed. However, common sense and logic has to come into play here. All those vehicles were clearly doing more than even a reasonable amount over the speed limit. The ones that weren't were partaking in other stupid activites that need to be just as loudly spoken out above. Also I think babies died the least in that video. Adults were victims the most, it's just that babies dying hits our human nature to the core, we are built to want to protect our young. That's why it is what you are focusing in on.

I really don't know anymore. We are getting closer to the same page. Maybe I misinterpreted other past posts' meanings towards the beginning of the thread. I saw part of the video, and I saw "speeding" and I just didn't like where it was heading. I would probably even kill myself if I even caused an accident going the speed limit and it killed someone. I think I value others' lives more than mine. If I saw a burning house I would probably run in to get people out of there. But myself, I could give 2 shits about me compared to others.

I agree that testing should be more difficult. And tickets should be more severe. A kid who is, yes more likely to drive like a moron, get a ticket it will likely put him on his ass. The adult can absorb it more. It would bite harder but not so hard as to take him out of driving for a while. The fines are the same across the board, but the kid has to have the harder loss because the license shouldn't be returned to him until the fine is fully paid even if he works out a payment plan. You have to start young to get this speeding issue bred out of the culture.

****Edit: My wife just thought of this. . . you should be on a probationary period until you're 25. don't remove the youth from the streets. But crack down on those that won't get it after 1-2 tickets.

When I was young and stupid a bunch of us went to Philly to watch races. On the way back we went way over the speed limit. It was 3 in the morning. There were literally 0 people on the road. The one kid got pulled over. When we got back he said the cop said we shouldn't have done that because it was night. And I just thought to myself, "wait, so I should've gone this fast during the day with people on the road."

Yea it was stupid. Both situations (night or day) is stupid going as fast as we were.

That's the kind of crap I don't do anymore.

I'd say the video is LESS violent than would actually happen. More like stuff that goes down in the Final Destination movies.

Stick your hand out of our car window doing 25 and smack a road sign or something else solid and see if you still have your hand. Imagine what happens to a whole body at higher speed. Not splay or shit flying everywhere, but bones are jello.

Anyone ever heard race tracks don't have speed limits? And no trees or people to hit. I don't get why people race on public roads. Don't get me wrong I might do a 2nd or 3rd pull but i don't go above 20 over the limit. The roads themselves are not made for those kind of speeds. Tracks are.

Also those that are not bothered by this must be young uneducated kids that think they are the best drivers ever. Its not if it happens, its when. Keep it up and you will see. There are tons of people to hit at a race track, if things go wrong enough, especially rally, look on you tube for rally accidents, you see tons of people getting taken out.

Not true, that is a rash generalization/stereotype. I didn't get bothered by this video at all, but mainly because I thought well there are pages on it. But I am very educated.

I now realize that my boredom has turned me into somewhat trolling and playing devils advocate... So i will retire, since i think me and spawned finally reached an understanding.

Honestly, I've been confused as to why people in here are arguing about speed in the first place. I think (hope) we are all intelligent enough to understand that increased speed means less reaction time.

I didn't see an overwhelming reference to excessive speed in that video. All I see is a message to wake up when you drive, pay attention, and don't do stupid shit...the consequences of it usually aren't on peoples' minds when they drive, and this video should remind us of those consequences.

Were not the only ones who do. Semi drivers carry 2 log books of their travels to show to cops and such. everyone hides or does things wrong.

Let's go with your child hit in a parking lot story. Let's say the driver was going 8mph and wasn't being a jackhole and the child ran out to get a kite or ballon or something. guess who gets a speeding ticket? the driver gets fined when the parent who deserves to be hit wasn't watching their child. Statistics lie all the time.

The moment you manipulate a fact it is no longer a fact. It's a lie. Therefore a fact cannot be manipulated. A fact is a fact. It's the definition of the word.

No one said statistics couldn't be manipulated. It was only stated that we have no way to contest them.

Manipulating inventory is theft, it's a completely different. Carrying to log books is fraud. How is that manipulating statistics? It's downright lying. A statistic is just a sum of something, the only way you can manipulate a statistic, is to add defined variables. Everything you mentioned is just downright lying.
