I have been really critical of you and this "super secret squirrel stuff" but I am interested to see what you come up with. I honestly can't see you making over a hundred more horsepower then anyone else on the 14b w/out nitrous. Unless you're changing wheels or something, which would then make it not a 14b anyways, the little guy just doesn't flow enough, so perhaps you're adding other power adders to the equation as well. Either way I hope you don't fall off the map like so many others who come around claiming they're about to do something. Good luck :thumb:

As for stocking up on 14b's alot of guys have gone through them quickly, while others like Phil seemed to have them last a long time. I talked to FP about installing the "monster thrust bearing" that they put into 16g's which apparently helps keep them alive, somewhat expensive but doable. The fortunate thing is, at least for now, another used 14b is readily available and cheap. With all the people jumping on the bandwagon it makes me wonder if the price is going to start going up haha.

In the meantime I think 2011 is going to be exciting, Phil will be back at it finally with some newfound power and even lighter weight, Nate will be throwing the 14b on the nitrous/methanol car, Hubz here will hopefully being doing his thing, and alot of other guys myself included will be going for some new PB's with new parts and strategies. Should be fun!

Yeah, I understand exactly what your saying. :) maybe it was a little early to mention anything. Some things that I'm doing others have done.. For example the 1.6 head thanks Dave ;). I'll be running meth, and obviously that water/air setup I've been preaching about. I already have a built motor.. All that jazz. My wonderful girlfriend just bought me some kelford 272's but the stock springs are floating at 4500 LOL. Next buy will be kiggly valvesprings. Still have a ton of fuel related items to buy to run meth. Slowly but surely things will come together

Cool. I will be doing beehive springs as well. I have to do upgrade springs with the cams I'm running so why not beehive and save some weight.

My project will be a bit slow as well now that I've decided to not just toss another turbo on and go back at it. I'm gonna start building another car for road course stuff as well at the same time---I know, we all just talked about how "other" projects take time away from our "core" project, but, with the talon still a drag machine, and my EVO and Forester XT gone, I have nothing to do track days with, and that is where more of my passion is these days. So, in due time.

Water/Air on a street car? Wow. Water/air does interest me, but, I'm just not sure I want to go that route. Still want to keep things as simple as possible I think. Not really trying to go too far out of the box, I'll leave that up to you and we'll see if I have any ground to make up when it all comes out in the wash.

:hmm:

Nate, the only reason I'm running a water to air is for e85 on the street. There is one thing that everyone keeps mentioning that I never said ;) I won't say what that is heh. I go home in 13 days and I'm getting very excited. I haven't even seen my car in almost 5 months. My brother has been doing all the work while I've been gone. Going to put a 4 point cage and my kirkey seat in probably next month.

:hmm:one thing that everyone keeps saying....:hmm:

I have a bad short term memory...:D

That's cool that you will be home soon.....have fun:thumb:

I thought 'Curt-Browntastic' was flattering!

You mean you're really Curt Brown!!!!!WTF:confused:

LOL

Well, whatever you have up your sleeve that you think is going to make 100whp more than everyone else who's "been there & done that", I seriously can't wait to see it. (and then do the same on my 16g car):sneaky:

Im sure another tip from the 14b record gallery: stock up on cartridges! Everyone in this circle will stand behind me in that if your seriously going to try running 10's on a 14b, you most likely are going to need a few turbochargers to get you through the testing before it's tuned and setup for the glory pass. 14b's drop like flies on record cars.

:D

I have 4 14bs waiting already.....:rocks:

I'm running a heavy duty thrust plate. I'm not to worried about the turbo yet. This season I'm just going to be focused on the dyno numbers. I'm predicting dyno numbers around april/may. Don't hold your breathe ;)

There you go making those damn predictions again...LOL

Seriously, and who the hell are you to be so critical of all thisROFL

I will be back it at for sure.....looks like the car might be about 2140 lbs. or so when all is said and done. If I hit the lottery, the car will weigh in right about 2030 lbs. for a total race weight of 2220 or so! Realistically, total race weight target is 2350 lbs. for 2011.

It should be a fun year for sure....hope to see you in the 11's Shane!

True...I hope some of these guys around do make it out for some passes.

I'm glad i have 2 junk 14b's laying in my basement right now. Maybe I'll get one rebuilt and hold onto it for 2 reasons.

A. Incase I try my luck at this 14b goal.
B. Incase the value of these goes up. ( I only rebuild one just incase the "original" one holds more value) Just like a corvette. LOL

I hope more guys come out of the woodwork for the 2011 season because this happened last year and then only a handful of guys made it to the track. none the less I just love watching this thread. I wish more secrets would be given up. and more pictures were posted. Were all in this together aren't we?

Wish this weather would ease up on me so I can toy around with this Galant some more...

It took a back seat to all the custom crap Ive been having made for the Talon, but now its just a waiting game to get out there and beat on it. I shredded through this clutch so its time for an upgrade. That 12s time slip is gong to be easy to knock down but at the rate I'm goin hahah who knows when it will happen! ROFL

Do it..that will be sweet to have you out on the 14b:thumb:

Yeah, I hear you your points. There are not many running 14b's to the extent that some of us are. Would be nice to have some more out there laying numbers down.

I'm lucky I made it out this year the one time I did. It's better that I did this year so that I didn't go out early next season and blow the turbo to pieces:D

Well, I can say that I'm happy in a way.....my 11.62 pass was/is the quickest pass for a 14b car in 2010:applause:....but, no personal best improvement unfortunately.:notgood:

...but, there's 2 weeks left....anyone?

440whp and 130mph traps on a 14b compressor will be hard to do. I went 122 mph on a 14b and it was hard to keep turbos together for more than 6 passes. I would like to say its as easy as "weld the waste gate shut and let her eat" but its a little more difficult than that. I don't know anything "top secret" so maybe that is my underlying issue?

No doubt and considering Joe B. ran 126 mph on his record 10.84 pass as light as he was at about 2200 total race weight....it's gonna be a while before we see anyone do it on boost alone.

If any of these guys come out with new set ups, but leave total weight at 2900-3000lbs, probably not gonna happen for them either.

It took I think a 50 shot of NOS for Bucci to hit 131 mph using the 14b on a 10.61 pass.

As far as basically pulling the wastegate line.....I don't think I'd ever try that. I know lots of small turbo guys tune for the "spike" and that may be the way to get the most out of it. I suppose I have enough 14bs around now that I could sacrifice a couple, but, it's a gamble at that point. My original 14b lasted my 14 years of drag racing, and 6 years before that with the original owner. I bet any 14b I toss on there now would last 14 minutes with the wastegate line pulled......

The car's done but Atco closed last weekend. Besides, it's way too cold for FWD and an open diff, it spun the slicks from a 3rd gear roll at gate pressure on my first test drive around the block. :ohdamn:

Nice post up some pics! I wanna check it out!

Yeah, it is gettin damn cold.

I just figured I'd toss that out there to see if I could motivate anyone, but, I wasn't thinking about the fact that the tracks are closed.

I've only got some stuff taken from my phone, I'll post up some better shots when I get the car back out of the garage. I'm also borrowing my friend's valve cover until mine comes back from powdercoating.

I hear you. My car is running nicely, the clutch works, upgrades are installed, the new tune is at 95%, and I'm ready to go! The weather has been terrible!

We're lucky the track stays open on Saturdays through 'winter' around here.
Josh, keep an eye on the weather. If there's a good day we should meet up at the track and see what that Galant can do!

I've got a ticking noise I need to diagnose... Me thinks it might be coming from the bottom end, not sure. Its faint but I'm going to pull the pan and just replace anything I see that needs to be replaced while I can before anything actually happens. I'm just careful like that... I still need to get a clutch too.

I would have hit the track looong ago if not for those few things that have popped up. I was borderline considering selling it and just finish the Talon but every-time I see the thing I smile, then get mad all over again hahah. I definitely wanna see how deep into the 10s that 16g can go though!

Well, I'd like to see you get out there and lay some numbers down, who cares about the tick....run it until it breaks:D

These pics are fine really...and all I can say is holy****! Your car looks killer, love the polished look on the wheels with the black. I'm generally not a fan of black cars but your car definitely causes some contradiction for me!, very nice all around:thumb: And your buddies '94 with 49k, WOW as well, so damn clean, I'd wrap it and put it away in a time capsule somewhere:D Also, I generally favor the 1ga, but damn.....those cars really make me rethink that.....awesome and thanks for posting some pics. It really adds alot to the thread.

Weather is no bueno out here right now... If I had a backup short block I'd run this thing until it blew up but since I don't I rather address the problem before its too late. I'm more excited about my HX52/S475 build LOL... The little 14b is nice and all but regardless of how cool it is to run 11s on the little guy I did 11s and 10s like 5+ years ago. I wanna go faaaaaaast! Hahah.

Slowly getting closer to dec 29th which is the day I go home. I have my sights on a cummins which is going to be pulling around this turd wagon for the next few years. My girl is growing more annoyed with me and how much I talk about this damn car. Ughhhh anyways.. I'll bring it back to dc with me and the work will start shortly after. I will let you know that I'm getting a forward facing manifold made. That's really the heart and soul of this project. I have a few other things in the bag that I won't spill just yet ;)

Funny, I was going to ask you if you were going to put the compressor in the front bumper......see, I can figure you out......:nono:

Heh :) bumper exit exhausts get me all excited ;)

That's cool too, for the "show" end of it as I was going to do that, however, I always think of weight first. And extending a wastegate tube and 3" exhaust pipe over to the side of the front bumper is gonna add weight over just blowing it on the ground like I am now.

Your forward facing mani is gonna add weight too, so hope that it's benefit "outweighs" it's extra weight.

I hope all of your ideas work out for you, but, 14b is a simple turbo, a simple set up may be all it needs. There is always overdoing it. You may be expending too much energy on all the "outside the box" thinking with the 14b. However, it will be interesting to see how it all comes together. Just more food for thought.

You silly old people watching your weight ;). It's full interior I'm not worried about weight this season. I know that it's also going to inflict my dyno numbers, but I can only do some much with my money and time right now. New motor will be built in 2012 also.. Well that's if I don't get deployed. On that motor ill continue with the 14b for a short time then jump into a e316g.

If you want to run 10 second ET's using 14b power, not only will you have to worry about weight, you'll have to remove it. END of story there. New motor in 2012? It's not even 2011 yet....what about the motor in your car now?

Motor in my car now isn't alumium rod ;). I jumped straight to 2012 because I will not have the money in 2011 to build a new engine.. Especially since there is nothing wrong with what I have. I know that more than likey I'll have to remove weight. My starting point will be full interior and unlightened driveline minus a flywheel. Since I easily have access to a dyno(brother worked at tpg tuning before joining the military) I want to record all the progress from reducing weight.

Oh, I see. And you think aluminum rods is the ticket into the 10's?

Full interior

unlightened driveline

10 seconds? ....maybe to the 1000' mark if you're lucky.....
