The 14b Car back out on borrowed slicks!

Congrats dude....I concur with Phil, that when it comes time to buy a set of slicks/wheels for yourself, I suggest hunting for 24" or 24.5" OD slicks and 15" wheels. Get the lightest stuff you can. IMHO the traction difference between 24" and 26" isn't as much use to a 14b setup as the 1-2lb difference in rotating weight of the smaller tire. On a cold crappy track, either will spin. on a warm/prepped track in ideal conditions, either will dead hook.

Any logs? what was the rpm through the traps at 116mph?

Thanks Nate! I will definately be looking for 24.5" slicks and the lightest wheels possible. I definately like either the Motegi Traklite 1 or 2's but they're very hard to find in our bolt patter in the 15" size and when you do they're out of my price range usually. Kosei K1's are a nice lightweight option that are usually cheaper, but again very hard to find in our bolt patter in 15x7. I'll be looking hard, but might end up with a 14-15lb. wheel in the end. If you have any good suggestions let me know! I like that the 26"s worked, but I still agree that 24.5 will be better in the long run.

I gave up logging 1/4 runs with my computer. It loses the connection when I launch every time. I either need to find a better way to secure it or use another computer. I have no idea what the rpms were through the traps :toobad:

Shane, the Motegi/QTP combo weighed in at 28.3 lbs. today. That's more than I thought it would be, but apparantly the tires alone are somewhere around 20-22 lbs when new (so says my database at work).

Thats decent still...its those 26'' ers.

For comparisons sake....the lightest combo I've seen(weighed them myself) is Volk TE 37 15'' with 24'' slicks weighed in at 24.8 lbs. So, for the ultimate in lightweight, under 100 lbs. total for all four wheels is the target. I'll try to weigh my drag dr17s with slicks asap.

Agree on running tubeless. Iv been using bias ply slicks without tubes for a few years now with no issues. Just a little green slime to seal up the pinhole leaks.

That's a superlight setup Nate! With all the 4 lug options out there I almost want to consider swapping them in! Rota Slipstreams list anywhere from 12.9 to 15 lbs. I don't know what to believe with them. Kosei K1 Racing's are 13.5 I got them mixed up with Kosei k1 TS's which don't come in our bolt pattern that are 12.5ish. There's options out there that aren't too badly priced, especially if you find them used.

I was gonna ask what yours weighed. The Volks that I weighed were Glazar's from the Extreme Talon. Here's a thought: 5 hole wheel of the same make should be lighter than a 4 hole wherl right? LOL Loss of 4 studs definitely helps though. I run tubeless as well...

You could but I think it might be alot of work for no real gain. I'm guessing that my wheels are probably 15 lbs. each and probably around 28+ with the slicks and my best 60' is only a one-hundredth off Nate's best. But, if you're in the market, may as well go as light as possible.
