I just currently bought a rebuilt an socketed eprom ecu, is there anything that I need to swap pin wise or will an EPROM ecu work when the car had a non eprom in it? With the EPROM ecu my eclipse just cranks swapped out my TMO chip and put in the e931 chip it came with an still no start but also at. The on position the ecu will make the dash start clicking if I put the TMO chip in it won't click? I plugged my non eprom back in no issue fires right up. Any insight or thoughts of what could be happening would be gladly apperciated

^ +1 to those questions. It's also important to know if the ECU came from an Automatic or Manual trans car. Try searching the part numbers on the case. Some pictures might help too.

But for trouble shooting, keep the stock EPROM chip installed. Who knows what the other chip is programmed for. It could be a very aggressive tune or just flat broken.

if the eprom is 91+ you have to swap pins 6/14 since you have s '90 harness. If the eprom is a 90 then you shouldnt hsve to do anything unless someone swapped the pins on the ece before to use a 91+ ecu.

What about the part number on your current ECU? Does it also come up as a 89-90 MT ECU?

If your current ECU is 90/MT and your new ECU is 90/MT, there shouldn't be any issues with the swap. I would suspect damage to the ECU, or a botched socketing job like you mentioned earlier. Here's a good reference on how to check for visual damage.

That's a legit socket, but the soldering job doesn't look very good at all. The board looks burnt and it appears that someone tried to repair multiple circuits. That damage right there could very well be your issue. My advice would be to send it to ECM Tuning for repair. They would let you know the extent of the damage and the price before doing any work.

This is why you don't let idiots do ECU work people. When someone is selling you some "rebuilt" ECU...one that has had socket work or repair work, GET SOME PICTURES FIRST! I feel sorry for the OP, demand your money back. If the person doing the socket can't remove the factory EPROM chip without breaking pins or exposing copper on the traces, they should have no business working on it. Those solder joints should appear factory.

If this is some clown on here, I would tell the world. No sense in any one else getting screwed.

he did have pics but not of the under side, just the socket, and the part number, we are still communicating, which is why im going to put any one on blast yet, or demolish them on here yet,he does have a good seller rating all positive feedback so we'll see if he wants to refund or pay to have it fixed. i havent left feedback yet, and i cant due to not being over 30 post which is bs, been on here for a while now.

When you're performing a service or being regarded as a rebuilder...you are expected to deliver some level of superior results. Do I know if the ECU functioned properly before the botched work was performed? ..no. But something as hideous as that would not come off of my workbench, let alone make it into someone else's hand (that probably paid a decent amount for).

But whatever, people will continue to ruin ECUs and keep others in business performing proper work that will outlive the cars they make it into.

damn.. i could solder better than that and im an amateur at it... i'm not bad at all but there are some things i just couldnt and wouldnt do. most ive done was over 220 LED's in the rear center reflector spelling "ECLIPSE" on the back. that took awhile

Update: sent the ecu back the guy agreed to fix it appearantly he didn't install the socket just replaced the caps, but he couldn't get to work either. He fixed some of the solder marks and check the operation of it. Sent it back to me an its working. But come to find out my TMO chip is bad wont start with that chip

...and why is the chip "bad"? Something caused it. The guy sent you a botched ECU... that didn't even boot. You sent it back. He "fixed some joints". He should have fixed all the copper pads and traces he botched too. Get your money back, buy another ECU, and be happy with your purchase. I wouldn't trust that ECU to get me to McDonalds and back.

I understand where your coming from, I didn't know if the chip was. Good or what is set up for. Mas wise, I know was for 550's that's about besides all the other goodies, I ve had it the car all day an been driving it around my non eprom is on the floor next to it just in cas, as soon as my taxes come back I'm buying like an converting my non eprom for link
