Eprom or Non-Eprom??

whats the diff. between an eprom ecu and a non eprom ecu??

If you dont have an Eprom ECU you cant tap into the ECU with a tuning device (DSMlink) and control the ECU. Someone correct me if im wrong.

The eprom ecu has an extra chip on the board that can be removed and replaced by a tmo chip or the like. As you said also the dsmlink system requires the same. I have researched this quite a bit and it seems that there is not a real performance difference between the eprom and non-eprom ecu. The only way to even know if you have or do not have one is to look at the ecu itself. If there is a letter "E" on the ecu then it is eprom and if some other letter than not likely. Unfortunately if you have a 1990 like I do you have to open the ecu itself and check for the extra chip.

Is there any particular reason why you wanted to know what the difference was?

OK, Im have a small e at the beginning of the part m#. Tomorrow I will try to see the bottom right corner to see what letter is there. I need to gt a keydiver chip in an EPROM ECU. I don't tkink I am qualified for DSMlink. Afterall I'm using webTV!! Thanks, Mark
