So are eprom ecu's just like a manufatcurer version of a programable ecu? Also i got an eprom ecu from a junk yard with bad caps but the board is immaculate i bought the replacement caps from DSMChips.com. The replacement caps 1g, will these work for both eprom and non eprom ecus?

Thats exactly what an eprom is, re-writable memory. Sometimes manufacturers just have them for the first run of a new model (such as the 2g's) which allows them to easily reprogram or flash the ecu with updated code it they find any bugs/issues to work out, instead of having to pull the ecu to install a new/updated one. After everything seems to be sorted out, then they sometimes switch to a non eprom version. For the caps, I'm not sure, I would think your source for them should be able to tell you if their the same or not, as that is what they deal with.

i am starting with the cheapest fix first. If the 9$ caps dont work then ill start lookin at a 300$ eprom LOL. plus its a common fix so hopefully it is common for the board to still be useable. who knows though. i will get in contact with the company i bought them from for sure i dont know why i didnt think of that LOL. i just hope i dont have to get my head planed i bought it and found out i had coolant in the oil but he told me he had a copper one on that didnt seal so he put an oem back on and the car hasnt been run since rebuild so i think he didnt change the oil "knock on wood". sorry for the length thanks for the answers!

If the caps dont work, or if you dont feel comfortable changing them yourself, send your ECU to STEVE!

These boards are up to 20 years old now, and the traces are VERY brittle. It is WAY too easy to pull up a trace when changing the caps, especially if you aren't experienced in soldering. I AM pretty damn experienced in soldering and I still managed to pull up a couple traces.

Steve is very reasonable, and he will get your ECU working.

*DO NOT QUOTE ME ON THIS* But I think if he cant get it working, you don't pay anything.

cool, i have hope for this dude who is doin it. He has a 92 and said he has done it a few times so atleast he has more experience with it than me. he is a real ase mechanic which is more than i can say for myself.
But i will get in touch with steve if this doesnt work. i just have my fingers crossed i still dont even feel like i own it yet it has been at my friends house LOL. i just hope it works till spring when i am getting more hours at work then getting a new one wont be an issue.
