Ok this is strange I hook the starter up and it won't spin so I tested the starter but put the ground cable directly to the starter like where the bolt goes through and it will spin just fine I hook it up in my car and try and turn it over it won't crank. I take it out hook it up with a pair of cables. Hook the ground to the back of the starter where a normal ground from the battery would go no turn just clicking. take that same ground hook it to the starter like where the bolt goes and it start works perfectly.

It is almost like the little cable that goes from the inside of the starter to the negative on the back of the solenoid is no good. Anyone seen this before?

Any help would be great thanks

The wire that hooks to the solenoid isn't the negative, it is positive, the negative goes to the starter mount bolt.

Ok in the picture below is the normal way I have it hooked up.
3 is to the negative terminal on the battery 2 is to the positive.

If I take and hook a ground directly from the battery to the 1 then turn the key it spins. If I have it hooked up like it shows nothing but the clicking of the solenoid.

Maybe that explains it better.

That is 100 percent wrong. The the other post that you have the ground hooked to is the power out from the solenoid to the starter. That wire bolts to the bellhousing where the starter bolts.
