starter issue

just rebuilt my motor and put a new starter in. my battery is dead so i had to jump it. when i turned the key, it cranked really slow. i thought maybe the motor was seized but i can still rotate the motor by hand. what could cause the slow cranking?

your battery sounds like its not charged. The alternator charges the battery so the slow cranking would come from a lack of power. drive the car around for a while - about a good 20 min. and then try it. if it still turns over slow check the tension on the alternator to make sure its tight, and charging the battery when you drive your car. good luck man.

So long as all of the connections are good, the jumper cables are thick enough, and the donor car has a good charging system. try revving the motor of the jumper car while you turn over the DSM . . .see if that changes anything.

Otherwise charge your battery and try again.
