I have a 97 GST, I lost the key. It has a different ignition in it than the original one because the case have already been lost once. (Not by me)

Because of that I cannot get a key made, I've had multiple mobile locksmiths come out and none of them can pick it either. I went ahead and took the mechanism off the back so that I could start the car . However, I've locked the steering wheel column and I've realized that you can't unlock it without the key.

Are my only options related to bust the ignition? I need to change the locking cylinder out anyway so I'm going to have to do something like that I guess, but I'd rather something less destructive. Thank you!

Drill out the bolts and remove the housing, this way you can replace the entire system with a new one. I sold someone this also this year because they did the same and had no key, without getting the surrounding housing off its pretty restrictive on options.

Once removed you got alot more options and if your doing it you may look into replacing the entire car with the new locks and make sure you have plenty of spare keys!!!

Is there any way to just break the locking mechanism?

Thank you all for your replies! I believe the easiest solution was to drill out the lock with a quarter inch titanium drill bit. If you go about halfway down the lock, you've taken out all of the locking stuff and it allows you to move it to the accessory position.
