Im what you call a carbon fiber junkie, i can never seem to get enouph of it, but Im tired of getting burnt by the junk non-fitting parts ive been getting. After researching carbon wrapping it seemed easy enouph, so I recently went for it. I started small on parts that i didnt mind ruining if i messed up. Shockingly they came out quite well...

First I started out making fog light-delete's. 386 made these but there was so many problems with them, so i never bought them. So, this is my own attempt.
<a href="http://s127.photobucket.com/albums/p150/Barfighter15/?action=view&amp;current=IMAG0096.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p150/Barfighter15/IMAG0096.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
I started with a stock cover off of my 2gB
<a href="http://s127.photobucket.com/albums/p150/Barfighter15/?action=view&amp;current=IMAG0097.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p150/Barfighter15/IMAG0097.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
to add a filler pannel I attached a mesh screen to the center, allowing the body filler somthing to hold onto. I the filled it with bondo, shaped, and sanded it until it was to my liking.
<a href="http://s127.photobucket.com/albums/p150/Barfighter15/?action=view&amp;current=IMAG0105.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p150/Barfighter15/IMAG0105.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
After that i covered it with carbon and resin.
<a href="http://s127.photobucket.com/albums/p150/Barfighter15/?action=view&amp;current=IMAG01061.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p150/Barfighter15/IMAG01061.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
After clear coat, awaiting polishing
<a href="http://s127.photobucket.com/albums/p150/Barfighter15/?action=view&amp;current=IMAG0110.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p150/Barfighter15/IMAG0110.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
And this is the finished product, I couldnt find the fog light delete pictures but this is the front side markers covered.

Now before anyone says "this doesnt save weight, blah, blah", I know. It was ment to save weight, its only for looks. The side markers are actually lighter because I now removed the bulbs, but the fog light deletes are heavier due to the body filler.

Are you doing this for your own enjoyment, or do you plan on making things for other people in the future? (not trying to come off as rude, just asking). Looks good!!

2 thumbs up... I've been thinking for some time now doing my own carbon fiber work, I've got over 10 years of fiberglass experience, which I know working with fiberglass and carbonfiber are worlds apart, but atleast working with fiberglass gives me confidence in trying carbonfiber since I have an extensive knowledge with working with various resin and outside temperatures, etc. I bought 2 books on working with carbonfiber. I'm planning on making a real carbonfiber gas lid and a real carbonfiber sunroof plug on the near future as soon as I finish with a few things first I'm currently dealing with on my Eclipse. Kudos to you, keep up the good work...

im only doing this for my own enjoyment. i dont even know how it will hold up, but thanks for the support. I was thinking of doing a bunch of small pieces and working my way up to bigger things. Ide realld like to get my hands on an extra set of oem mirrors and see how they come out. ill post pics if i do.

Ya I looked up a few places that sold it..But the description said fabric..And wanted to know if it was fake..
So carbon fiber fabric is what your using?
But like I said It was pricey..But people sell fake shit all the time for stupid amounts of dollars...

Wow looks great! And it looks like someone said already they have mirrors. I also have a pair of OEM mirrors from my 2G. The electrical bit on them didn't work when I bought my car and on the driver one, I tried moving manually since it was so low I couldn't use it and it broke out. So I have a passenger one intact but not adjustable, and a driver one with the mirror insert broken out. I still have the mirror part itself though LOL.

EDIT: Oh but they are at home and I'm at school. So I couldn't send them to you until Christmas break.

no its real carbon fiber im really not sure of what you mean by the quote "fabric"

I googled where to buy carbon fiber..The links I checked out said cf fabric..

Can you post a link of where you bought yours at please?

Wow awesome thread!

Chris, why were you on the Mustang forums though?

:p
Someone here pointed me to it. I don't care what kind of car it is, it's an awesome build. Looking through that thread you can see why I'd be so interested in not having to sift through the replies in a build thread, huh? ;)

Lmao I was thinking that but I'm too stubborn to admit to it! That gives me an idea. Actually. Ill pm you.

Man ive been interested in doing cf jobs and ive decided i want to do my headliner. Ive got a few years of fiberglass experience (anything from speakerboxes to 60 foot shrimp boats) and i was wondering if it handles like fiberglass does. Does it stretch and warp a lot or does it seem to be a pretty stable fabric? Can you buy it in wide sheets.. like wide enough to cover a headliner without layering it? What k did you use?
