Alright i'm just trying to get a decent setup. Right now i'm looking for the right head unit to get. I honestly am completely clueless on which ones are good and can support what i want.

My future plans are to get a decent amp, 2 subs (whatever specs) and to upgrade my speakers.

Money is the real issue here, i'm trying to focus more on performance than my audio, but i NEED a decent system, its just one of those things i have got to have pretty soon. All together i wouldnt want to spend over 600$. It might be a little steep but if i can just find a good steal on ebay i would be set, i've seen a lot of good deals for subs and amps and what not.

What i'm asking u guys, is to just point me in the right direction, what head unit to get that willl support my needs, has decent options and is easy to use, also one that isnt too sensitive about the cds it plays, pretty much all the cds i'll play on it will be burnt or mp3, i've heard some head units really dont like scratched or burnt cds, and i've heard some can just play anything theyre so good. Also what setup as far as amp/subs/speakers.

Basically "bang for buck" setup, the best the least ammount of money, cause i dont need something thats just ridiculously loud and pounds harder than anything. I just want something i can be proud of and won't attract all the thieves in my neighborhood to come rape my baby.

This is just a little preview of what you could get my friend has alot of pioneer in his car and it dosent sound to bad for the price.. i suggest looking at www.crutchfield.com or going to your local stereo stores and browsing around btw this setup is for a car with the infinity sound system if you dont have that just switch the speaker sizes around

HeadUnit: Pioneer DEH-P3600- 169.99
Speakers: Pioneer TS-A6970R 6X9's 99.99& The TS-A1370R's for the front 79.99
Sub: 12'' alpine type-s sub 149.99
Amp: Depending on weather you power sub and speakers or just the sub
your going to have to pick that out yourself cause alot are expensive youd be better off checking for a used one i have the alpine 5channel amp which put me back 499 itself

but for the speakers sub and headunit your already up to about $499 which dosent leave you much for an amp if you stick to your $600 setup

if you want to see this stuff on crutchfield just type the codes into the search and they will give you them

600 might be pushing it, you can get a good head unit, doesn't have to make all kinds of crazy colors and spin and shit to work good, mine is great, 220 installed, then you can fine deals on pairs of subs with the box at bestbuy or cicuit city almost weekly 150ish and you can find a decent amp to power em for about 200 on sale somewhere, just look around, if you want to replace all your normal speakers too 600 might be pushing it unless you go ebay but I don't think ebay is a good electronic type store, could look great in the pic and the cords are messed up and can't do anything about it, so I'd go to a real store for that one

i have a kenwood setup i am not using that i will let ya have for cheap. 2 sets of rca pre-outs, and lots of options in it. there is a d300 cd player, and a 509 (?) tape player. it fills both halves of the radio opening perfectly. you control the d300 cd player through the tape player. had a nice little spectrum analyzer, and plenty of adjustments for audio. it came in my car when i bought it, and i much prefer my 8volt eclipse :D new, each unit was like 300 bucks, totalling 600. i'll let them both go for say, 100 plus shipping? they are in great condition, work perfectly :)

if you're willing to drop some money, i would recommend eclipse hands down. i've owned alpine, kenwood, pioneer, sony, nakamichi, denon, eclipse, and a few other brands of head units. i've had 5 different eclipse decks now, and i've learned my lesson. eclipse all the way for me :) but then again, i'm reeeeeeeeeeeeally picky ;)

I just got the Panasonic CQ5110U for $180 at Circuit City about 2 weeks ago... And it has 3 different pre-out settings *front, rear, subs* and sounds very good... Now, since you're on a money budget *same shoes that I'm in* it would be smarter to go for a cd player without the 3-dot matrix screen and all that extra animation crap on it... They have the same CD Player that I got at Circuit City for $100 more and the only thing diff. is it has graphics on the screen... Which isn't really necessary.

As for speakers... In my 87 Bronco I had the Pioneer TS-A1670R in the front ( http://www.cardomain.com/item/PIOTSA1670R ) and the Pioneer TS-A6880R ( http://www.cardomain.com/item/PIOTSA6880R ) in the rear. They are a VERY good speaker for the price that they are. They sounds very clear at high volumes. I had 2 10" subs and an amp running the subs and it sounded very very nice.

As for amp/subs I'd keep looking on ebay for awhile. Average sub cost is about the same for all of them (Key word AVERAGE)... I really want to get the Infinity Kappa 100.3DVC ( http://www.cardomain.com/item/INFKAPPA1003DVC ) they have a very nice deep bass sounds to them even at low volume. And they're not a bad price. *you could get cheaper but remember "you get what you pay for"... the cheapest you're going to find any descent subs are $ each and those are running for only $110...

If you have any questions or anything PM me... Hope this helps :thumb:

i was thinking of getting some kicker subs, do u guys think theyre good? also what kind of amp would i need to support them?

If money is tight, buy used. Go on ebay, go tot he pawn shop, go to the flea market, the local trade center or whatever. You can find sweet deals all over if you look hard enough.

For most Kicker products, you'll need a good powerful amp to make these sound right. Depends on what subs you're getting to get specific.

comp vr 's are pretty flexible, they sound tight in a sealed box and play with either extreme power or lower power... I would run a 10" with 150-250 watts...

(my plans are to get a kicker 10" vr (with 4 ohm voice coils for a 2 ohm load) next week for use with my kicker impulse 5 channel (2ohm stable 290W at 2 ohms). my amp was a demo model, 40x4 (4 ohms) +290x1 (2 ohm) that I got for 200 locally.

Don't forget about things like wiring and RCAs that you will need too when setting up your budget.

right now i have an infinity basslink 10 (200w) and it sounds nice but not as tight as i need and not quite as loud... LOVE hatchbacks for giving such great bass performance!

I would have no qualms about using a vr 10 or 12 as long as you are using a sealed box.
