I had my two 15inch alpine's, 2x 2000 watt earthquake amp wired mono. tsunami 20 farad cap, in my first car took them out and has been sitting there in my garage. You can't go wrong with alpine type r's! had them for over 3 years now and pushing them at 2000 watts each. I was going to put them in my gsx but the box plus everything else weighs like 100+pounds...

10 farad cap for less than 1000 watts of amps. thats a little over kill don't you think? Why did you even waste the money on the capacitor? For the bling factor?

I'm buying a sub and an amp here soon but I don't know much about car stereo. I was thinking about getting one 15, maybe like this one? Or would 2 10's or 12's sound better? I usually listen to rap or rock. Any tips on what to look for in subs or amps when buying? Hate it when peoples bumps sound like shit, don't want it to happen to me.

My vote is for a single 10". It is seriously more bass than anyone needs unless your 16 and are trying to impress everyone with your bumpz.

Im going to make a box that fits into the side of my trunk since I like the bass but dont want to sacrifice a trunk. My friend has made a couple for some people and hes gonna help me make mine.

something like this but on the other side of the trunk

And if you want some songs with bass, I know a whole bunch that hit HARD

I'd like to see some installation pictures from the 1G AWD guys. We have such little space in the trunk area. How have you guys dealt with the space limitations when mounting sub-woofers, amps, etc. while still retaining the spare tire and rear seats?

15 is pretty overkill....10's are tighter, work better for rock. 12's are not quite as tight but offer more bass. better for hip hop and rap.

I have Alpine Type R's 6 1/2 all around. Boston G5 12' in a 1.5 cubic ft box with polyfill. Alpine PDX 1.1000 mono amp set to 2 ohms, Alpine PDX 4.100 4 channel, Alpine CDA-9855 head unit, 160 Amp alternator. Sounds good for me.

I've heard this as the general rule of thought for a long time, however I don't see how anyone could make the arguement that a 10" sub is not great for the bass required in Rap or Hip Hop. Listen to a proper setup and you'll know. I would bet an 8" subwoofer is all that is needed to get the proper sound needed for all genres of music.

that is incorrect. Bass is a soundwave. the soundwaves are created by the volume of air that is moved. the larger the speaker, the larger the volume of air, the deeper the bass. easy example. look at a tweeter. where's the bass? not enough air movement to create the soundwaves required for deep bass.

yes. you can get bass from an 8" woofer. but if you had 2 properly setup systems. one ith an 8 and one with a 12. you would def hear the differece. if he bought the 15" he would get much more bass. but i just believe a 15 is overkill.

While I certainly don't disagree with anything you've said, I think you have to take into account the application of the speaker. If it's in a small volume area like a trunk or in our case, basically the whole interior, results can be had with a much smaller speaker.

again. it all depends on the hertz range you are looking for.....smaller subs can't produce the very low hert range. which is why they say use 12" subs for hip hop and rap, because they typically use much lower bass with the beats so for best sound, the bigger the sub the lower the hertz. car size has nothing to do with the sound produced. read manufacturers reccommend box size and if it's ported or not to optomize the subs performance.

I use to have 2 Rockford 15's back in the day, and I must say its no overkill. LOL Unless your not into message chairs. But I think it all really comes down to what you like. Do you like it to puch you in the back of the head, or that nice deep throaby bass. Personally I like the deep bass myself. I always ran my 15's on 50 hertz and now I even have the 12's on 50.

Ok so I guess I need to work on setting up my system correct. Any tips? I'm thinking one 12 will be good. I only wanted a 15 because I love the low bass to them. My friend had 2 10's that sounded nice and deep, but I've also heard 10's that don't hit hard enough.

It all depends on you, my 12 sounds great especially with over 500 watts from my 500/1. Pics, none yet i just built a box and put it over the floor, love my fwd, if i had a awd, i would build as enclosure in he passenger side. Still might if i get a awd one day.

So what kind of amp would you guys reccomend? Should I spend more money on a new one or would a little bit older used one do? What should I look for when picking one out?

nothing wrong with an older amp as long as it works....and just make sure the RMS wattage matches the power capacity of the sub and that if you have a dual voice coil sub, that your amp is capable to hold it. you want a good amp. dont go too cheap.

oh. and don't even look at peak power. that number is useless.

Going older is a great way to go. I run a 10 year old PPI amp, using all 6 channels and I love it.
